I own an Electro 35 GSN, so can anyone answer this question: why am I so tempted to buy a Bessa R2 + Nokton 50 1.5 for ~$500?! :bang:

I know this little camera is great, but something is pulling me in the direction of the Bessa... What's worse, I shouldn't really be spending money as I am graduating from college in December :bang:

If you want an even faster lens in the normal focal length range, get a Lynx 14 with its 1.4/45mm and save yourself around $375 ($25 for the camera including shipping, $100 for a CLA).

I'm in the same club !

Can't wait to be a bessa owner wanting a ZI, and then a ZI owner wanting a Leica, then missing my ZI, and wanting it again.......

:)

Nick have you checked Lynx prices lately? I'll buy yours for 25$ including shipping... if it just needs a CLA.

Point is I think the decent ones are going around $75 - $100. Do you have a secret source you're not sharing? ;- )

wow, I've never really looked into the Lynx at all, but it looks promising. I think the thing I'm missing is fully manual mode to expose images at my will.

Why isn't the Lynx more popular, especially on these boards? It seems most people gravitate towards the ELECTRO 35 (oops)

the lynx is a model produced by yashica and models like the 14E are excellent in performance and reliability. however, it is hard to find one in good condition for a low price.

Becasue it is cool?
because you can change the lenses?
becasue it has more feature and is lighter than the Yashica?
Because the Bessa R2 is a newer camera?
Because you can attach a 35 or a 28mm to the Bessa R2?
Becasue you have a camera that has manual shutter speed controls and a newer lightmeter?

Mechanical shutters and apertures of Lynxes are gummed up more often than on Electros (though clean well), after 40 years sitting in barn. DIY or send for CLA and have very nice camera which doesn't make you calculating what speed corresponds to this or that light.

Let me be emotional for a moment ;)

While Electro is like robust automatic gun, Lynx' are like duel pistols...they are ...elegant. Especially 5000 model. Wait, 14 isn't less - especially balance between huge lens barrel and body which here looks sleek (although isn't smaller than Electro). And they not only look good, they also work well.

Today I realized Lynxes don't need short throw, like Konica Auto S2 has - it's not elegant, it's simply rational. KAS/2 are somehow different breed. Wonderful and brutal - they are. Wonderful and elegant - so are Lynxes. Buttersmooth shutter release is final touch, making your choice.

While I like adult Electro 35 models, from automatic Yashicas I prefer Electro 35 MC - small, fast to use, nice glass, compensates filters automatically, dirty cheap compared to fairly better cultish GX and CC (more pronounced DOF). It's perfect prototype of modern P&S cameras.

No, actually I haven't checked out prices recently. They're really going for that much? I got mine for $2.50, plus shipping. Say around 12 bucks?

My take with a camera like the Lynx is, you get the best condition/best price, and send it off to Mark Hama, which is what I did (actually Greyhoundman, then Mark - long story...)

I think the Lynx is pretty popular. Electros are very plentiful. The Lynx is a big camera be forwarned. Some are put off by its size but it's one camera - along with my Fujica Compact Deluxe, I really love to shoot.

The Lynx - as previously stated, invariably come with gummed up shutters. I really would recommend getting it CLA'd. I think it's one of the cameras that's worth the expense.

By the way - not sure I fully understood your comment. But the Lynx is a fully manual camera with a meter. No aperture priority, no shutter priority.
