I was trolling eBay for Voigtlander lenses when I came across a couple of 50mm f/2...Septons! What?!? I assume these are in the old Prominent mount...I wonder how it's different from the current 50/2 Heliar, which I love. It seems to be the only Voigtlander lens name that Cosina hasn't recycled.

Anybody here ever shot with it? Or...modded it to fit a Leica?!?

I can see why they haven't recycled that name ... sounds more like a disanfectant! :p

The Septon is in Bessametic/Ultramatic mount as far as I am aware of; after all I just have one example.

Seven-glass, 5-group symmetrical derivative: singlet, singlet, doublet, doublet, singlet (S24 in Cox's Photographic Optics, Focal Press, 15th ed. 1974). The name obviously refers to the seven glasses.

The Heliar, by contrast, is a 5-glass triplet derivative: doublet, singlet, doublet.

Cheers,

R.

mabelsound,

I am afraid I haven't used it as much as I would have liked, the Bessamatic CS (the one with TTL metering) has not been well so I have to pull my socks up to get it fixed, or get a replacement. But when I used it, the results were excellent.

Also there is a bit of edge separation on my example: "Septon" might be a bit of an unfortunately accurate name!
