Any 280mm Telyt users out there?

I use to have one and it was a very decent performer but obviously much slower to use than current a 300/4 for modern AF SLR or for that matter a decent MF lens with full aperture metering like a 300/4.5 AI Nikkor that has equal performance at a much lower price. The 280/4.8 is plenty sharp wide open so stopping down is not really needed except for extra DOF. This of course makes it slightly faster to use but the long focus throw, long minimum focus and greater than average bulk and weight (due to M mount adapter and Visoflex unit) make it a lens more for the Leica purist that has no other SLR body.

I used mine to shoot my youngest daughter's soccer game a little over a week ago. With the long focus throw, definitely not for the faint of heart. It is a beautifully made lens. Hopefully, I'll get a chance to get the film developed soon and see how it turned out. Normally I would have used my dSLR, but my other daughter has it right now and it just hasn't been a priority to get it back from her.

Used to (alongside a 400/5), but I don't use any tele much any more; the longest I normally use now is 200, though I own 300 and 600 (none of them for Leica).

It's pretty good, and quite modest in size. If I found another, at the right price in excellent condition, I might be tempted. But I can't say I really miss it.

Cheers,

R.

Interesting lens. I understand there were three versions, do they differ much in IQ?
What would be the current price? Do any of you have more sample images?

Thanks,

Peter

I had one for years, but between the 180 and the 400 it didn't see enough use to warrant keeping it. I think that I had the second version. It was more than sharp enough for sports or picking a head out of a crowd.
