Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and new to rangefinder photography. I have been doing SLR photography for years but have just purchased an M6.
My question is this, I'm looking for a good introductory book to rangefinder photography. It doesn't have to be Leica specific - just a good basic intro text.
p.s. I'm thinking of buying a Voigtlander Nokton 50mm as my intro lens - thoughts? It seems to get generally good reviews.
thanks for your help.

Leica WAS 35mm rangefinder photography from when Canon, Nikon, and Zeiss abandoned the market in the early 1960's until the Voigtlander Bessa came out a few years ago, although their were some Eastern European copies of the Zeiss Contax being produced. Get a copy of The Leica Manual. I think the most recent edition was published in the early 1970's but it covers basic handling and techniques.

Welcome to the club. I also recommend the book by Roger Hicks (and his wife whose name escapes me at the moment).
Hope you've got deep pockets!

Thanks all. I have the Hicks book on order. What about the book, Leica M: Advanced Photo School, anyone familiar with this? It certainly is pricey.

I have this book Shane -- it's very leica-centric, and has a great deal of hyperbole regarding Leica equipment (which I happen to like a great deal
Hope that's of any help, and welcome (from an admittedly junior member)

Shane and Debusti, welcome to the forum, you can learn a lot just hanging around here I know I have.
Be sure to post some photos and check the gallery to see what other members are doing. It is more about the image than the equipment.

The book is written by Günter Osterloh.
"As a result of his long-time association with the company, Gunter Osterloh has witnessed every milestone in the development of Leica cameras. He served as Leica's leading technical expert for decades, and now is the technical editor of Leica Photography International and Leica World magazines, as well as an instructor at the Leica Academy."

So, you may expect it to be leica-centric.
Interesting reading, though.
Cheers,
Uwe
