Is it OK to leave the external VF on at all times?

Should I worry about leaving the external VF on my M3 all the time? I'm kinda worried it can get banged around in the bag and distort the shoe mount or break the VF. I'm using the CV 28mm metal finder on my M3 if that makes a difference. A 28 is my only lens right now so I have no reason to remove the VF unless there is a possibility something can break.

For what its worth, I routinely carry an M in my work bag (a Crumpler Cheesy Disco) with external viewfinder attached - anything up to the VC 12mm, or a Russian turret finder - with no problem.

Not a problem apart from the small extra bulk.

This is a 'problem' I had never even considered in nearly 40 years of Leica ownership, so it can't be much of a risk! That's not meant to be rude, though it may sound it.

Cheers,

R.

Thanks for the replies. I pretty much figured I had nothing to worry about but this is my first lens that requires an external VF so I wasn't 100% positive. I didn't want to make a silly (and costly) mistake.

Thanks!

I would even go as far as saying leaving it on is better. It is when attaching and removing, that bad things are more likely to happen. Also, the less often you remove and attach things, the less likely the fit will loosen up. Unfortunately, I am an expert on this having witnessed my Imarect viewfinder take a dive to the concrete a number of years ago.....

David just stated my concern. i.e Having an expensive vfinder fall, or get bumped off.
I put a "noose" of monfilament fishing line around the base of my finder(s) with a small snap swivel on the other end which I hook to the neckstrap ring. Cheap loss protection.
