Hi! This is my first post!
I'm hoping someone experienced with this camera knows how to help me. I received my FED3 two days ago, I tested the shutter speeds and all worked great. I am aware of the need to cock the shutter before changing speeds etc...
Anyway, the problem is that today the shutter isn't closing. It doesn't matter the speed i set it on, it just doesnt close again until i cock the shutter again.
Any suggestions??

Thank you very much on my hour of need!

Make sure that the film rewind collar on the shutter button hasn't stuck half way - on my zorki 4k the actual button it's self can get stuck half way down with that same result. does the button seem stuck down at all? i hope this helps!!

thank you for your reply! No, i've checked that.
Maybe there's a problem in the shutter's system with the curtains. In high speeds it just moves around 4mm.

check to see if one of the curtain ribbons has torn or become unglued.
the curtain spring tension on the spring rollers could also be off a bit and may need some re-tensioning.

hi
I have fed 3a with a similar problem . The shutter works fine when used in the higher shutter speeds but when the slow speed shutter is engaged the 2nd shutter curtain does not fully close. I think it maybe that the 2nd curtain needs cleaning using the lighter fuel trick described in the fed2 CLA article in this forum .I must admit though that I have whimped out of repairing it myself and sent it to Fedka for CLA. Though this may sound expensive at 70 dollars you do get a sound reliable camera at the end of it

yup, usually the old grease sticks and the second curtain doesn't fully close or doesn't close at all. You can let the camera a few hours on a heater or under a lamp or under the sun (in this case, remember to put a cap on the lens otherwise you may have other problems with the -remains of the- curtain!)

My Zorki 4k had a similar problem on the 2nd curtain that was cured with a slight adjustment to the curtain brake.

I'll attempt my best at repairing it then! I'll gain the knowledge to dismantle de shutter system. Any tips on where to find this info for a fed3?
Thank you very much for replying

check the stickies at the beginning of the FSU forum section.
lots of valuable repair tips there.

You will see two screws with locknuts on the bottom of the camera. This is the spring tension adjustment. This will most likely fix the problem. Make sure you hold the locknut with needlenose pliers while you tighten the tension with a jewelers screwdriver. There is a sticky on top of fsu page with photos. I fixed my FED 2 using it. It was simple. Goodluck with the fix.

Hi! Thank you to everyone for the help. I finally fixed my "new" FED3!
I gave some tension to the second curtain, readjusted the slow speed mechanism and lubricated a few parts and cleaned everything!
I've learned a massive deal of knowledge!
Now to take apart my lubitel 2, hahaha.
Thanks
Ian
