I wonder who has benefited the most from the launch of the M8; Leica or Carl Zeiss. Because of it's hefty price many M8 buyers have bought ZM lenses instead of Leica lenses. To what degree?

Difficult to vote, so I didn't :bang:.
Started with CV, then got some CZ and now been buying Leica. So I guess all companies benefited....

Just after I bought the M8, I bought
35mm Summicron IV
90mm Tele-elmarit
50mm Jupiter-8
25mm CV
I am done now, I thought it was the most balanced kit between usage frequency, weight, size, focals, price and quality ... very satisfied with it.

I haven't bought any since buying the M8!

Though, I do have a 50 sonnar and a 35 IV summicron, so I don't really need much else!

I bought a 21 Biogon with my M8. I also have a 35 CV, 35 Summicron V4, and a 90 Elmarit M as well as a 50 DR Summicron that I use on my M4.

I'm considering a 50 Sonnar and a 28 Biogon. I may, however, go with a V4 28 Elmarit because I like the softer contrast of the 90s vintage Leica lenses.

The 21 is a great lens but it does have a different signature (fingerprint) compared to my other lenses.

I can't vote on this since I've bought both Leica and Zeiss (18/4) lenses since my M8. The poll allows only one answer, not 1, 2, or 3 as applicable.

Before the M8 I had and M6 with those lenses:
ZM21/2.8
ZM 35/2
CV 50/1.5
Elmarit 90/2.8

After buying the M8 I got a CV 75/2.5 ( and sold the M6 :bang: )

Prior to the M8 I had my two M6 bodies with a CZ 50mm f2 Planar plus an old Canon 35mm f2.8.

After the M8 I bought a 35mm Summicron IV and a CV 28mm Ultron.

As such I have three Leica bodies, one Leica lens, a Carl Zeiss lens and a CV lens...I'd say it was a fairly even spread on who's done best out of me except for the simple fact the only thing bought brand new was the CZ Planar.

After the M8, i bought a Zeiss Distagon ZM 18mm and then a Leica Summicron 28mm Asph, both new.
Also a Voigtländer U-W Eliar 12mm and a Summicron Apo-Asph 90mm second hand.
What else ?

When I bought my M8 it was after having an RD-1 for a while with Zeiss 28 ZM, 50 ZM and CV 90.

I subsequently purchased Leica 28 Summicron, 75 Summicron, which in turn led to a perilous downward spiral of CV 15, CV 12, 21 ZM, CV 35/1.2, Leica WATE, Leica 135/3.4 Telyt APO, Leica 90 Summicron, 35 Summicron, Noctilux and now most recently a 50 Summilux.

Overall I think that Leica have benefitted quite well from the M8 with respect to lenses. It's also fair to say that both Zeiss and Voigtlander are doing well too, with the added market of the Epson in addition to the traditional film cameras.

The good news is that I've yet to have a bad rangefinder lens experience with any of the vendors.

If Zeiss could find a way to have their lenses coded without the need for hand coding or milled replacement flanges from JLM etc then I could easil have been a 100% Zeiss customer. Convenience/bother/UV/IR optimization eventually lured me to all Leica lenses now (with the exception of my CV 35/1.2 and 12).

The quality of the Zeiss lenses did however have an impact on my DSLR lens buying habits and so I'm now a big fan of the ZF lenses (18, 25/2.8, 35/2, 50/2).

Now that is an impossible poll... I bought Leica,CV *AND* Zeiss lenses after I bought my M8....

I had Leitz, Canon, and Voigtlander lenses before buying the M8. I now own 3 Zeiss lenses since the purchase of my M8 - 18/4, 21/4.5. and 25/2.8. I haven't used these lenses to shoot film, but I can attest, they produce superb files with the M8!

as baycrest and others said, the poll makes it difficult to vote unless you allow multiple choices. i bought (and resold) a zeiss 25mm, and bought a voigtlander 15mm and later changed it for a 12mm. the rest of the lenses are leica. :)

greetings from hamburg
