Santa Claus brought me my first Leica today!

Hello y'all,

this is my first post here.

After a history of SLRs and DSLRs and trying the new Canon 5DII I decided it was time for a change. I've always been inspired by reading the classical camera infos on cameraquest.com and then I came across this forum. I really like the style here and especially enjoy the pictures posted. So this triggered the wish to finally own a Leica after some 30 odd years in and out of photography. I decided to go with a M2 because I like to shoot 35mm. I found an auction with one including a 35/2.8 Summaron, which I won on Sunday and today it arrived! I have handled quite a few cameras including the great Nikon F2, some Minolta SRTs etc. and I also have an Olympus 35RC but unpacking the Leica I have the feeling this is something else! It feels like a real photographers tool and a jewel at the same time. I was pleasantly surprised that my Leica looks much nicer in real than on the ebay pictures and it feels great. So here it is and I am very eager to load the first film!

Congrats......the M-2 is a jewel. My taste lies more around the Barnack cameras and I own 3 of them....(its a sickness for sure). Wonderful glass too!!

Micheal, all you need now is a good neck strap and maybe a hood for the Summaron and you should be all set! Stock up on film and just shoot away! Resists the urges to add more stuff for at least 3-4 month (or 100 rolls, whichever comes first). The M2 is highly addictive as a camera. Small enough to always come along and the 35f2.8 is still a formidable lens - even after 50 years.

An excellent choice in both camera and glass. No self timer is my preference.

Yes, as soon as I have some presentable pics I'll post them.
I liked the Summaron photos I saw here and elsewhere which is one reason I went for this combo.

Greetings back to Munich! I was at Sauter today (Munich's largest photo store) and got a selction of b&w and color negative films, I still had some TMAX400 and Tri-X at home - but alas it was raining the whole day and freezing cold and windy. Not the type of wheater I would like to try out my new Leica for the first time. So I have a new Leica and lot's of film but I can't use it...!

I came from Canon SLR/DSLRs to the M system as well (though I'm not giving up on the Canon gear, I just don't want to carry it everywhere anymore like I used to).

Yes! I am keeping my 5D, which I really love too. In fact as a part time pj I need it. I just saw that the 5DII offers nor real improvement for me especially not IQ wise.

Thanks for the advice! In fact I just won the auction for a IROOA hood and I ordered a Gordy strap! The 100 rolls rule seems like a good idea to keep me from drooling over my watch list to often 😀

Yes, I like the fact that it has no self timer too. Thanks for the interesting read on Kodak XX, some nice shots there!
