Hi all!
I've just acquired a working Canon P. It is going to be CLA'd before shooting film but let me ask one question. Is this camera supposed to have light seals somewhere? Mine doesn't have any, not even leftovers as far as I can see. I have Jon Goodman's great light seal set so I could DIY install new light seals if I just could get some instructions.
Thank you,
Mablo

No light seals that I can recall. It's got a light lock built into the rails for the back.

No regular foam light seals in my freshly overhauled Canon P. But there is a clever light trap on the back by the hinge, and above and below this there is a small piece of velvet, about 1/8" x 1/4".

That's right - just the two small patches on the back cover - foam or felt should be fine.

Yep... they just don't leak.

Thanks for your kind advice. So If I get it right there should be three small velvety pieces by the hinge. I'm afraid I couldn't find anything velvety or felt-like in there. Hmm... what to do now?

Right. I think I'll wait until my P comes back from CLA and decide what to do then. I trust completely the guys who are servicing it, they are really really good and experienced. But it is just a fact that P is not a common camera where I come from (northern Europe). We see Leicas and Rolleis and whatnot around here but vintage Japanese models are very rare.

NOT three--just two. One each in the in the top and bottom corners in the groove/ channel (at the very end) of the back at the hinge. Probe carefully with a toothpick and maybe you'll find them...or not, if they've fallen out. They are tiny and should be replaced. Remove them w/ lighter fluid/ toothpick and replace w/ 1mm thick rectangular pieces.
