I got this beauty at local shop in Yokohama last weekend. Had to grab it since it came with authentic S-42 hood and the shopkeeper managed to find a Canon 40mm UV filter to come along with it. 😀

Or in a more authentic way...

Hi mactansblue, it was 29,800 yen with the hood. I got a thin Canon UV filter for 1,800 yen at the same dealer. Its roughly us$ 310 or so.
John, yes it did vignette slightly at F8 with filter on the lens, but it didn't at F2.
I forgot to follow the instruction the guy at the camera store told me; to put the filter in the hood. The hood unscrews off of its ring fixture part and there is a recess there to insert a filter. I will try that the next time.
Thanks for comments.

Congrats--I keep thinking the poor, Japanese economy will cause Canon RF lens prices to fall, but it hasn't yet apparently. Not happy about all the people out of work there, but could the prices please fall from their lofty heights?

Hi Bill thanks for worris... I had a chat with the guy at the camera store. Because about the same period last year, Canon gear was plenty around at thrift prices. Over the past two years I got P, 7, 50/1.4 , 100/3.5 and 85/1.9 for about 15,000 yen each. 50/1.8 was sold for under 8,000 and 50/1.5 was priced under 20,000 as I can remeber.

But from the last summer they started to disappear quickly and prices shot up. The guy agreed and he was saying since the price went down so far that nobody want to sell Canon LTM gear anymore.

One point though, I saw Avenon 28/3.5 at 25,000 and 21/2.8 at 40,000 at the store. Very tempting.

Speaking of lens hood, I found my other hoods works the same way... T-50-2 and one for 50/1.4.
Unscrew the hood, place a filter in the recess and put it on the lens. The filter will screw on to the end of the lens thus keeping the hood on firmly.

Funny about vignetting. I had a UV filter on it for protection (I kept it on until I bought a lens cap that it didn't have) and wide open it vignetted (as in the museum shot I posted above and that was AFTER I used Elements to lighten the corners). Not sure I understand how yours would do that at f/8 but not f/2.0 - it doesn't seem logical to me.

Oh, and as for hoods? That's for sissies. 😉

FWIW,, I've found that the standard vented 40mm screw-in hood (either the original vintage Walz or modern copy from heavystar, et al.) works great on the 35/2 without vignetting.
