Thanks a lot, Tom -- I was already the high bidder before you gave everyone else the HU. :bang:

Well there, I`m sorry just trying to be helpful.....someone already offered him a $425 BIN!!!! AND HE TURNED THEM DOWN!!!!

So there`s people looking at this way before I posted this here at RFF.

Tom

This is getting ugly.... so glad I'm not bidding! :D

does anyone have the whole family?
35/1.5 50/1.5 85/1.5?
this would be one really nice kit

Erik,

I finally have the 1.5 Canon trio as a set.
My 50/1.5 is a Serenar in chrome, while my 85/1.5 is the last version [with meters and inches on the distance scale]. I am unsure which version of the 35/1.5 I have.

A question to those who have used this lens: How does it differ from the Canon 50mm f1.4 and/or the modern Zeiss 50mm Sonnar f1.5? Thank you.

In addition to what Roland said, and comparing just the two Canon 50s, the 1.5 appears to produce color tones that are a little warmer than those produced by the 1.4. I've seen this in the results of some of Raid's lens comparisons. One of the reasons I quite like the 1.5 for color.

Of course now I don't want another 50mm - even though Id been looking for this Canon for a year. I now have a Zeiss 50/1.5 that I would not trade even for the Canon. (I never thought I'd say that...)

Jim -- Did you get the new Zeiss sonar? I missed that! Now I"M the envious one!!

I have the family. My favorite is the 35/1.5, mostly because I rarely use the 50mm or 85mm focal lengths. For rendering of images, I prefer the 50mm- unfortunately, I do not "see" well in 50mm.

Hey Roland, if you decide to sell your 50/1.5, give me a holler!

Well, everyone has their own likes and dislikes, it`s just human nature......I don't like the Canon f1.4, I sold mine......
I love my f1.5 and it does just what I want it to do......

I'm just the opposite. I sold my Canon 50.1.5, just too soft wide-open for my tastes, and bought a Canon 50/1.4 which is now the standard lens on my MP.

I do agree that it's a personal thing.

Here`s another great reason to buy a f1.5......this is still one of my personal favorite photos, taken with a f1.5, it`s my lovely friend Angela, in a sample photo from my "first" f1.5 I sold over a year ago....the shoot was based on that 1949 ELNY IIIC sales brochure ;)
*that Canon lens was a <EP> one, it sold together with a "minty" 1955 IIF2/Rapid Winder combo to a private museum*

This was taken with also the "first" IIIC K Grey I ever owned....... a May 1945 issued US Army one.
(now also gone as well ~ traded away)

I bought a 56' VT with another f1.5 on it, the VT`s long gone
(traded for a Chrome 1945 IIIC K "non stamp")
......and now that lens is sitting full time on that 45' IIIC. :D

There's a very nice fall off into fuzz in the corners of the Canon 50/1.5 at wide apertures. The Canon 50/1.4 is a modern sharp lens.

Steve, Brian blessed me with his 1938 uncoated Zeiss.

I can't force myself to use any other lens right now. Why he sold it to me, I'm not sure. Perhaps he pitied me. Or to make me shut the hell up about the Canon 50/1.5 I kept begging you to sell to me.

To tell you the truth, I favor the pre-war uncoated Zeiss 5cm 1.5 over the Canon 50/1.5. I have to take more photos with the Canon before I am persuaded otherwise.
