Yes, Zeiss over the Canon. I have the Canon, but it is not used.
Hello Roland,
This is interesting that your two Nikkor 50/1.4's behave differently, which do you yourself prefer, the results from the earlier Tokyo lens or the later Japan version?
Regards,
William
To tell you the truth, I favor the pre-war uncoated Zeiss 5cm 1.5 over the Canon 50/1.5. I have to take more photos with the Canon before I am persuaded otherwise.
I have the family. My favorite is the 35/1.5, mostly because I rarely use the 50mm or 85mm focal lengths. For rendering of images, I prefer the 50mm- unfortunately, I do not "see" well in 50mm.
Hey Roland, if you decide to sell your 50/1.5, give me a holler!

And this one is Wide-Open, but the subject moved while I was focussing...

IMO: Softer than a really good Zeiss Sonnar, more pleasing OOF than the Nikkor 5cm F1.4.
Hello Roland,
Lovely bokeh shot.Your Gallery "smugmug" portfolio contains some awesome photo's and I recommend any forum member that has not viewed it to do so .The "San Marino" photo is the best "magical " atmospheric photo that I have ever seen along with "Pigeon Point".Wonderful portfolio Roland.
Kindest Regards,
William
Yes, the color appears to be warmer with the old Zeiss lenses ....While the use of such lenses is known to be great with B&W film, it is equally great for pastel colors with color film such as Fuji Reala or Portra NC.
Thanks- someone made a convincing argument.
On the conversions: I've posted a thread on doing them yourself for those interested. I've also re-enabled PM's here at RFF and on the ziforums.com site.

Tom, you don't have to defend the Canon 1.5 by yourself. It is one of my all time favorites. Just saying there are other lenses with good bokeh ....
does anyone have the whole family?
35/1.5 50/1.5 85/1.5?
this would be one really nice kit
