Hexar RF still being serviced?

Ouy-Vay, Bob!!

RF 'way out of alignment' is why I sent my Hexar to PCR!!

I hope they do better by mine (and fix your alignment, too)..

HEXAR RF alignment

HEXAR RF alignment

Is RF alignment a DIY fix with this camera?? I'm guessing the little cover on top gets one into the RF screw?

To the horizontal, yes. Depends on how adventurous you are... it's easier with the cover removed.
There is one hidden screw under the rubber coating you will need to remove to get the top off.

Update on my Hexar at PCR:

Camera returned with RF way out of alignment- it was fine when it left. I have an email out to them to see what they want to do.

When I sent my Hexars out to KM (before they decided to split the camera biz entirely), they tended to give the cameras the once-over, even if the issue with the camera was minor (i.e. they checked the VF even if I didn't specify a problem with it).

There's always the chance that the thing got smacked hard during shipping, but that's mere speculation on my part. I imagine they'll want the camera back to set things right.

If you remove a top cover - it's a fairly simple job. I had one of mine done - took all of 30 min. I wouldnt mess with just top cover - its easier to do with top off. There were some instructions online, maybe even from here some thread, but I dont have link on me now.

well, you've all discovered worst flaw of this camera; RF does not stay in alignment. Mine went back to Konica several times back when Konica existed. They'd return it worse than when I sent it to them. Sold it in disgust.

That would suck, the RF was fine all the time I used it before sending it in for the dread loose top-plate.

But some users don't complain about RF alignment at all.

Seems to me it needs to be aligned, and a couple drops of black fingernail polish used to keep it aligned..??

Thats odd - to me that is. I have a couple of Hexars and one never did have a problem. The other - when I got it, came with RF misaligned, but I had it fixed myself in 30 min or so and it stays that way ever since. And I carry them around alot, no special care, just like any other RF or non-Rf camera. So, maybe it's some samples that are more prone to this than others. I really cant complain about anything when it comes to Hexars.

I did a RF alignment for a friend of mine who did not trust himself to do it. I fixed the screws with a tad of the wifes nail polish (purple if I recall correctly:eek:), let it dry for 72 hours before reassembly and his camera is still good as gold. The set screws tend to loosen, but the RF alignment isn't that big of a deal. I'd be more worried about the circuit board and mechanics, if those go, the camera is lost I presume.

What made me decide to not shoot the Hexar RF (I have a bunch of the Hexanons, I love them) is the fact that the film transport cannot be 'stalled', like in the AF's Silent Mode, or in the latest M8 firmware. I''m still wondering if Greg Weber would be able to supply such a hack, a circuit breaker should be enough, right?

I'll need to contact Precision too... I just got back my black Hexar RF that had fallen a few feet onto a steel ledge and knocked the RF alignment way out. They fixed the alignment (same $106 as noted above) but it now has film-winding troubles it never had before. Just verified with a second roll of film, and when the processing comes back I'll have a clearer idea of what was going on inside. Disappointing.

Hello Doug...

Man, that is really dissappointing to hear!! We have two who sent in thier cameras to precision, only to have it returned with problems it didn't have when sent!!

They have my RF now. It worked great but was purchased in Ebay with an undisclosed RF 'way out of alignment' problem.

I sure hope they don't mess mine up in fixing the alignment....

I will report back here how my expirence goes.

Sounds like they are going to fix sepiareverb's camera for no further fee (as they should).

Definitely get yours back to them, Doug, I would be on 'em like white on rice!

Precision had mine for 19 days from the time they received it to the day they shipped it back. They might have yours for the same...

Update: After getting my processing back it became clear what was happening. The camera occasionally thought I'd opened and closed the back door, so it reverted the counter to zero and advanced about 2 frames of film. When it encountered resistance at the end of the roll -with still a low frame count- it became confused and started blinking the zero and didn't automatically rewind.

I emailed Precision, and they sent back a pre-paid UPS shipping label addressed to a specific person there. So it may get special treatment this time. So far so good. UPS tracking shows it left Redmond WA about 18 hours ago, due to arrive in CT next Wed (3/25). I expect it'll be a while before I hear anything about the camera repairs.

In the meantime I can exercise my recent Hexar RF Ltd, here using 50mm Skopar lens and Fuji NPZ.

Mine went to UPS yesterday, too crazy a week to get it packed up & to UPS (they can't get up my driveway to pick up till late April). I too had the pre-paid UPS label addressed to the particular person, who I'd spoken to on the phone.

Tracking shows it is being delivered to Precision today.

My Hexar RF cannot be repaired

My Hexar RF cannot be repaired

Finally heard from Precision....

Here is the email I got from them today:

====================================
Good Evening Mr. Thomas,
The technician has informed me the unit is being returned unrepaired as
there are no parts available to repair the unit. The unit will ship
shortly via UPS and you can track the shipping information on our
website using PCR Tag number 2xxxxxx. I apologize for any
inconvenience.
====================================

It's interesting to note that they had the camera for 15 business days with zero communications. On day 16, I emailed and asked for a status. Two days later they write and inform that it cannot be repaired due to lack of parts.

Everything _except_ the RF alignment worked perfectly. It can still be used as a WA body.

I hope Doug and Sepiareverb have better luck that I did with thier Hexar repairs.

In the meantime, I did buy a Hexar AF and my goodness, I do love it. Super sharp lens and so nice with it's 'silent mode'.

Cheers from Colorado....

Not cheery news, reala_fan! They were able to fix my "way out of alignment" problem caused by impact; wonder what parts yours needed to fix alignment. Now of course mine has a film handling problem with light-caused markings on the film that hint at diodes lighting up and sensors confused.

I sent an email asking the status of the re-repair, also furnishing info about the more recent processed film strip. Their online status indicator just shows the completed progress of the original repair, and I have no new tag# to check, though I asked for one. I got the below email yesterday, appears to be essentially boiler-plate text.
