Hello
I just got a pair of a rollienar set 1,2,3 bay 1 for my rolliecord v
my problem is that i don`t know were to put the rollienar 1 for example
on wich of the 2 lenses of the rolliecord
on the view lens ?
or no the taking lens ?
the same problem for my light green filters

thank you

The rolleinar should be in two pieces, often they are attached together for transport.

The thicker piece goes on the viewing lens, you need to align it so that the red dot faces the top of the camera.

The thinner goes on the taking lens and it doesn't have to be aligned in any particular way.

Filters just go on the taking lens.

here the thing i have this :
rollienar 1
rollienar 2
rollienar 3
not one off them have a red dot so that i can use the same way you tall me.
at each of them stamped a number like this sample :Rolliecord 1

thank ofirs

sounds like you don't have both pieces. mine is like historicist described as well. you need the longer of the two pieces lined up with the red dot on top so that the viewing lense can triangulate properly.

Hi ofirs,

to me this reads that you either got a very old set, which came without the finder lenses, or you just lack the finder lenses.

I have a three piece Rolleinar 1 set and a two piece Rolleinar 2 set. If you look at ebay item 160322560865 you can see a three piece version. This consists out of two Rolleinar 1 close up lenses (one for the viewing lens, the other for the taking lens, it doesn't matter which one goes where) and the thicker Rolleiparkeil, which corrects the parallax and gets fitted intop of the Rolleinar 1 on the finder lens. Later Rollei released a two piece set, with a standard Rolleinar and a second thicker piece which is a combination of a Rolleinar and the Rolleiparkeil and gets mounted on the finder lens. Check ebay item 130293970981 for an image. The Rolleiparkeil or the thicker combined lens carry the red dot.

I understand very early Rolleinars were not solds as sets, but individually. You had to first mount it on the finder lens to focus, once that was done, you moved it to the taking lens to take you picture. This works only on a tripod and parallax has to be guessed. I am wondering whether you Rolleinars are supposed to work this way. What is pusseling me, is the Rolleinar 3. So far my understanding is, that the Rolleinar 3 was only introduced when Rolleinars were sold as two piece sets.

Concerning the green filter. This is for B&W film and gets fitted to the taking lens only.

Hope this helps
Joachim

Joachim
thank you for the link, and the explanation, now i understand what have i missing.
i have looked at the link and i see there is 3 per of close up lenses
one is bigger and the other 2 mark as 1

Thanks

just last question how this set working ?

Hi ofirs,

I am glad I was able to help. If I understand correctly what you are writing, you have a three piece set. To use this is quite easy. You should have two pieces which are identical close up lenses. Fit on to the viewing and the other one to the taking lens. You have to turn hard for the bayonet to click in. Now, to correct the finder parallax, you need to mount the thick piece (typically engraved "Rolleiparkeil") intop of the lens you mounted onto the viewing lens and make sure the famous red dot is pointing up.

Now your Rollei should be able to take pictures in a range from 1m to 0.5m (3 to 1.5 ft) if it is a Rolleinar 1 set and from 0.5m to 0.3m (1.5 to 1 ft)in case of a Rolleinar 2 set. No corrections of any kind needed. It is dead easy.

I hope I got your question correctly.

Joachim

Hello. This is my first post on this forum. I have acquired Rolleinar 1 and 2 set for bay1 but I've missed the main thing - I've bought a set without rolleiparkeil. Have any of you tried rolleinars without parallax correction? I'm just wondering how big the parallax is without the compensation.
Thanks!

With your camera on a tripod... once you have composed and focused, move the camera up so that the taking lens is in the same position that the viewing lens was when you compoased and focussed.

Thanks for help! I thought about that but could you say me how big is the parallax without compensation of camera height?

So in total you have four (two No 1 and two No 2) slim lenses, neither of them being thicker than the other?

When you set the camera to infinity, the finder will show about 4 cm or 1.7 inch (the distance between the two lenses) to much in the top of the frame and it will miss the same amount at the bottom. At the closest distance this will be less, due to the in finder parallax correction.

At the closest distance of the Rolleinar 2 you get an object field of about 20 cm (8 inch) diameter. The parallax becomes significant.

Though this can be managed. The Mamiya C330 has a finger in the finder which indicates how much is shown in the top, which will not make the frame. They don't show what gets added at the bottom. With the 80mm lens the Mamiya focusses extremely close for a medium format camera.

Yes, exactly - 2 rolleinar 1 and 2 rolleinar 2. All 4 have the same thickness. I think I need to test one roll of film on some kind of a "grid" just to see how big the parallax error is at different distances and with different rolleianrs. I need to buy rolleiparkeil in any case (it is a bit hard to find only rolleiparkeil for sale), but the test would be interesting.
