Hi Folks,

I've just bought a Petri Color 35 (No. 515750), that seems to me mechanically all right, but the shutter does not fire. I can turn out the lens, I can hear the mechanical work and the springs when turning the shutter speed-wheel, the lightmeter works, the battery check works, diafragma as well. I cannont push forward the advance lever. Seems as if the camera has been advanced and so the shutter should be ready to fire but doesn't. I can press the shutter-button right down to the ground, but nothing happens. Same with a cable-release.

The cam is in over all very good condition. No dents or scratches. So it would be a nice object for my cam-exposition :) , but it would be far more fun to use it.
Do you have any hints? Or do you know any repair-man (best in Europe or if possible Germany)?

It don't want to dismantle it on my own. That would cause only more damage I suppose.

Kind regards

Kleinkamera

I had one of these cameras...and I think I had a similiar issue - I believe I had to fix something under the wind lever - but I cant recall, I think there is some inter-locking mechanism under the wind lever that needed repair, which blocked the shutter from tripping...here is the manual

good luck

Dan

Thanks, but that doesn't help me really. I've got that manual already, but couldn't find any solution for my problem in that.

So the question is still the same: Can anyone help me?

I've just dismantled the Petri a little bit. I carefully took of the vulcanite und then unscrewed the front-plate with the ring around the lens. I couldn't see the reason for the shutter-problems. So I ordered in "da Bay" a repair manual in the "US and A" . But again: If anyone can give me further hints: Just do it!

Mine petri developed similar issue i.e. I can fire and wind the shutter, but whatever I've done shutter remained shut, I gave it to repair guy almost a year ago he said the issue is shutterblades, (or to be more exact the pivots that are supposed to move shutterblades but with time started to carve lanes in shutter blades. The effect is that the pivots are moving yet shutter remains shut) he said he'll need new shutterblades. I already tried to use petri color 35e as organ donor but this one has different shutter.
If you don't feel like repairing yours and don't want to make it a shelf queen I know someone intrested in its innards:D

P.S. I hope the shutterblades are not the issue here but some minor mechanical prooblem, which will be easy to cope with

Hello Cruz,

thanks for your help!! I bought a repair manual and dismantled my Petri 35 Color completly. The shutter didn't fire because of a blockade. It was cocked and could not trip because the little pin that reaches into the holes of the shutter blades can slide out of this holes easily. The effect: full blockade. I hoped I could solve the problem by bringing the blades in the right position and then pushing the pin back into the holes of the shutter blades. It works again but it is not relieable. Sometimes everything is fine, sometimes the deeper placed blade does not trip or not trip back. To illustrate I attached a pic. Red arrow: The shutter blades. You can only see a little part of them in the hole. Green arrow: The tripping-mechanism. The pin is under the little chrome part.

All in all the Petri 35 Color is a very nice camera but the shutter seems to be a big problem. It is not strong enough. I now bought a second Petri 35 Color for parts. I tell you when I have it. My idea is to take out the shutter blades and use them for making a little series of new ones. I don't know how complicated that could be. Just an idea...

Best wishes to Poland!

Hi, it's good and very enviable to hear your petri has recovered and it wasn't the shutterblade catastrophy I had to live with. Still be warned that this can happen to you(hope not)
Your idea with making spare blades sounds interesting but I fear it's too optimistic: finding the right material, cutting it to exact size and weight can be tricky.
My repairman tried several blades from different cameras but it didn't work so I have to hunt organ donor somewhere, someday...:D

I just came back from the movies where I saw great movie "Knallhart" I think it's a really promising debut: great actors, good directing and crude but well depicting photography, point for deutsche cinematography.

Best wishes to Deutschland

There is a parts camera on ebay, looks cheap.

Just curious if there is still anyone around with direct knowledge of this type of issue with the Color 35. I picked one up which seems entirely working save the shutter blades don't move. I was able to free up the mechanism underneath the lens front ring so it will cock and trip, bit the blades don't move. Any pics or details that would help me get closer to the problem?
