I have a Fed 2 with a slow curtain. I'm getting black bands from top to bottom on the left side maybe 1/10 of the width of the frame. I remember years ago fixing an old Exa with the same problem by winding in some more tension on one of the curtains. Which curtain do I need to adjust and how do I get started. Kind of a shame since the camera is perfect but for that.

Either the second curtain is too fast, or the first is too slow, since it's "capping" you are describing. Try the sticky on adjusting curtain tensions...

I checked that out last night. The bands in the image while snapping the shutter in front of a TV are perfect every time. They are fairly narrow and always totally parallel.
I counted a while ago and I had six images out of a roll of 24 with 26 exposures with the problem, always in about 10% from the left side completely black. Seems like this is just a some times thing. The camera is a Fed 2 with the flat top and the lever wind, I guess it's the type 4.
Gosh there seems to be a whole bunch of different models. In looking them over on http://www.rus-camera.com/camera.php?page=fed&camera=fed2
there seems to be more Fed2's than any other model.

Hi, do you mean that the black band is on the left of the print or neg?
If so, read http://www.rangefinderforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=73110
You may find that you can see this happening when using the highest speed.
