- If I was to file away the portion of a lens hood that appears in the lower right corner of the viewfinder, would that effect anything in the image? I know it would make the hood more susceptible to flare but I think I can live with that.

Considering that most hoods for RF lenses are vented.............

or are you considering not just cutting a vent into the hood but taking out a chunk to eliminate the blockage all together?

I think the biggest concern would be if strongly directional light--sunlight/spotlight/streetlight/etc--were coming from over your left shoulder. Where the hood is cut or filed away, you would be relying on how well or not the lens handles flare...if any of the lenses you want to use this modified hood on rotate as you focus, then the cut out is not worth doing, I think.
I'm pretty sure I've seen OEM hoods made like this--maybe for one of the Canonettes?

I remember same thing - for 35RC. Hood has cut-out.

As on FLRF barrels don't rotate like on some SLR lenses, hood stays in same position all the time.

You could make a hood out of black 'construction' paper (called cover stock in art supply stores) and test your cut out idea that way.
