Well, I didnt buy it, I was considering to buy but after the replies, I see that It is not that rare so...It is not even in good condition...

I will stick to my leica IIIf :)

Erik, I see a beatiful Leica I in your avatar! It is looking so nice...
 
Leica I 1930!

I found a Leica I made probably in 1930,as the serial number is 37xxx.

What do you think the price would be?

As to my investigation it can be couple of thousand $. It is one of the earliest ones.

How long's a piece of string? :p

I think condition with something like this is paramount ... I have the exact same camera with very little wear on it with it's original case and accessories ... I'd place it's value at twice that.

how about one with wear and dirt? (though not broken) :) can it still worth a couple of thousand?
 
A Leica I from 1930 isn't rare at all. In working, original condition, with clean optics, the price varies from $ 500 to $ 1.000 depending on cosmetic condition.

A couple of G's is pushing it a bit. As previously point out $500-$1000 is closer to real.
 
I'm with Erik. I have one from 1931 in superb condition, but would not expect to get >$1,000 for it.

Of course, if someone wants to offer me $2,000 or a swap for a minty grey IIIc K, It's all yours :D
 
Well I didnt buy it so I cant show but after the replies then I wont buy as it is not in good condition..But thanks anyways!
 
I sort of have two, the second has nice paint and condition, but needs new vulcanite or leather, plus, it was converted to a Standard.

Probably it only has about 50% of the covering, and that depends on how carefully it is picked up. ;-)

Both seem to be functioning well, I shot a roll of XP2 with my Avatar, went through the speeds and apertures, the negatives seem to indicate the exposure is consistent, and there is a bit of "glow" in bright objects in bright sunlight. ;-)

I found both in Prague.

That is great John! I would like to get too just because their vintage values...the early models, ancestors of leicas :)

I have been to Prague and saw some too but I wasnt familiar with those during that time...

Yours are looking definitely better. the one on the bid was pretty in bad shape...
 
Prices drop pretty fast with dings, legit brassing not so much, but still the nice shinny paint is a draw. I probably will recover the Standard Conversion, and a friend sold one on the bay for a high buck to the right guy. This one was at Pazdera, and really, if the covering was very nice, it might have been out of my price range. I noticed the low numbers later. That one has a very acceptable degree of brassing. Another project?

If you get back to Prague, and have some time, you can sort of do a drive by on a more or less daily basis at BS, Pazdera, and Skoda.

They are uncommon enough to enjoy, and common enough to find some in good shape with a little persistence.
