"Flim? You want flim?"
I do love my Canon P, especially the very fast loading of the swing back open - but my M2 is not to be belittled. When using it, I feel more involved, perhaps due to the way you must work to feed it film. But the bayonet mount is very nice, too. So, this is just an exercise in comparing apples and oranges, my friends. Apples and oranges.
You an almost imagine a group of Canon engineeers over 50 yrs. ago peering over, dissecting an M2 or 3 and devising ways they could improve on it with the not-as-yet designed Model P.
They did a helluva job.
I imagine them taking a Nikon S3 apart and improving it. The auto- parallax corrected viewfinder on the Canon P is a nice addition.
The only flaw that I find is when using with a telephoto lens such as the Nikkor 10.5cm F2.5 or 13.5cm f3.5: the RF window gets blocked. I with it had a slightly longer RF base. This does not happen with the Canon 7.
If the Canon Engineers had left the Selenium Meter off the Canon 7 and put a shoe on it, it would be the LTM Camera that we ooohhd and aaahd over. They put one too many bell on it and forgot the whistle.

I bought this from an RFFer last month...a bit crudely done but effective. I already had the 50/1.2...

OOOOooohhhhh! AAAaaaahhhhhh!!!
What were those engineers thinking, and why didn't they do the Canon 7n (no meter)!

Someone else on here has a hammertone one that's even nicer--the shoe is actually recessed in a very professional way. Evidently the person who did mine filled in the holes in the front with bits of brass sheet, welded, sanded, and painted. He didn't fill in the curved meter window though, you can still make it out under the shoe.
