50/1.1 Knock Your Socks Off Nokton at CameraQuest

Speaking of the Collapsible Heliar 50mm f3.5, I was on the verge of selling mine to help fund the purchase of a Noctilux. But with the advent of the Nokton 50mm 1.1, the Heliar is not going anywhere soon.

In fact, with arrival of the Nokton 50/1.1, I will own four of the CV 50's... Heliar 3.5, CS 2.5, Nokton 1.5 and 1.1. I guess I could pick a Heliar 2.0 and then have them all! But instead I am thinking only keeping the Nokton 1.1 and Heliar 3.5 and selling the rest as they are just collecting dust.

Can't wait till this is finally delivered. I put a deposit down already here in Adelaide. Weird as I haven't even got my rangefinder yet!

Mainlinephoto seems to have it for relatively cheaper than the US market - after taking currency conversion into account... $1295 AUD - and you don't have to worry about customs importation nor warranty.... check them out if not too late.

I put the deposit down at Photoco in Central Market here, and ye it was at $1295 so pretty happy about that.

Even if I don't like the look of the pictures I should be able to sell it at cost pretty quickly me reckons. Doubt that'll happen though.

So if you buy from mainline photo and take into account their international prices. You could get this lens for $970 US + shipping etc.. Is the tax included or is their any?

Retail prices in Australia includes 10% GST (like VAT in Britain). Some web site in Oz show tax free prices for export (e.g. Vanbar) so others would probably also be able to export without tax.

Over the years we have tended to pay high prices for photo gear, but pricing nowadays is keener. Mainline in NSW have done a great job in keeping prices at a level that makes buying gear very tempting.

I'm not 100% sold on the OOF character

If I were to get a lens this fast, I'd be shooting it 99.99% of the time wide open; the only OOF samples I've seen from this lens don't convince me. The Canon 50mm f/1.2 is very nice in that regard.

Would love to see more samples with this new lens wide open, and in color.

Same, I wish we just saw some colour samples and with great oof highlights, but I took the gamble I guess. Hope it arrives about the same time I get my M6!

I have the wonderful CV 50mm/f2 but I almost never shoot it at f2 (seems too soft). I also had a Nikon 50mm/f1.2, same problem. But I am really attracted to this new CV offering. If it would stay sharp wide open, well that would be awesome.

I absolutely, positively do not need this lens. I have a Noct and many other 50s.

So tell me, why am I thinking of sending in that darn deposit?

It's a sickness, but a fun one :)
