California (Bay Area, Northern) SF Pilgrimage: Looking In: Robert Frank's "The Americans"

I think this show begs for multiple viewings. July is the busy month for me, so I'm planning on May 30th as well. Being a film buff, I'm also gonna try to see some of his films.

boy, am I lucky. I will be in the bay area next month (mid-June) and hope to catch the exhibition. If possible meet up with some RFF folks too? :)

I'm on the wrong coast, but I will be checking out some Robert Frank films tomorrow over here in NC at a place called The Light Factory. small world sometimes....

Definitely not the 13th, I'll be in the netherlands from the 10th on in June. The 6th I'm working, (and probably shouldn't take off since I'm going to be gone for 3 weeks right after!)... But I might be able to do Sunday the 7th if that works for anyone else?
Yep. I know. I'm being difficult. ONE of these days I'll actually meet up with someone here besides Jamie...!
:)

I saw one of the programs (Program 3) of Frank's films tonight. I recommend getting in to see at least one of the programs. Interesting stuff that helps to add some important context to the photographer. BTW, Program 3 includes a film "Energy and How to Get It" that includes "cameos" from William Burroughs and Dr. John.

Mike,
I'm planning on going both days (6th and 13th) -- RF is a model for how to make a photo book that is far, far more than the sum of its parts, simply head and shoulders above the usual collection of "good shots" that so many photobooks consist of, so I gotta go more than once. :)

Besides, haven't seen Robert in like 6 months and want to hear how his Japan trip was.

I think I can go either the 6th or 13th. For those who can't make the 13th, we could always start a splinter group for the 6th. Agi? Honus? Kent? :)

All- I am glad to see so many people are going to enjoy the exhibition. To those going on the 13th... I look forward to seeing you all.

I have two guest passes for the SFMOMA ... for whoever (especially the out-of-towners) needs/wants them. PM or email to claim, or if there's no takers, then I'll bring them along "just in case".

It is a great show. Don't miss it. The Americans may be a watershed book of photography, but some of Frank's earlier work - particularly of the London Bankers and the Welsh Coal Miners - were, to me, some of the better images in the exhibit.

I'm out for the 13th, but I'm going to slip my visit to the 14th. Btw, it's very good. I went today. The real treat was seeing the William Kentridge exhibit on the same day. Wow! That was fantastic, very entertaining. Popular shows, both. A great day at the museum.

Kent,
My calendar got filled up with my daughter's end-of-year school stuff on the 6th. But I'm planning to be there on the 13th. Has a meeting time/place been decided on for the 13th?
Jamie

I would like to attend one of these events with the rest fo the group. I am availble to meet on the 6th, the 13th, or 14th. Please post a date, time, and place as to when you guys will be meeting.

i'm not sure that details have been finalized for the 13th. But if you're up for the 6th, a small group is meeting outside the SFMOMA (the sidewalk cafe area) at 1pm. Look for the scruffy guy in hiking pants and carrying an orange Timbuk2 messenger bag (me) :D

I'll PM you my mobile number too.

Sisyphus, when you meet Kevin ask him for Shudaizi card. I've got three so far! Next time I see him, I'm getting my fourth! :p
