I ventured out during my lunch hour today with my EP1 and 4 M mount lenses - 1959 Summilux 50/1.4, 50's Canon 35/1.5, CV Ultron 28/2 and Zeiss Planar 50/2 - All of the lenses showed good results when stopped down to f8 - as you would probably expect, but I was keen to see how they perfromed wide open.
Here are a few examples
Summilux 50/1.4
Ultron 28/2
Canon RF 35/1.5
Zeiss Planar 50/2
I think that all lenses performed well, with the Zeiss Planar easily the sharpest. I found the results from the Summilux pleasing as well.
Using the camera in manual focus is quite easy and straight forward - the magnifying focus assist is well thought out and very effective. I shot in Aperture priority mode - adjusted the aperture manually on the lens and let the camera choose the shutter speed - all of these examples are at ISO100
There are some more examples here including some shot at smaller apertures.
I'm really happy with my EP1 so far - I gives me a new way to use a range of lenses in a digital workflow - and its fun! ( Although my fridge will be full of TriX for a while yet
)
I'll be testing more lenses over the coming days.

The fist shot looks bizarre! The focus is literally cut in and out.
EDIT: Where has the first shot (along the wall) gone?

Another RFFer complained that the LCD was useless in bright sunlight, making it impossible to focus manually. Is this your experience?

Are these lenses used on the E-P1 better than the kit lenses? Beyond the radically shallow DOF of the Summilux, which I'm not interested in, does using the adapted lenses result in better photos than just using the kit lenses?

Yeah, it's pretty much at minimum focus distance...
No, not at all - it was sunny today -but I had no problems manual focussing with the LCD at all - (maybe because I am used to manual focussing a Hasselblad using a focussing screen - the technique is similar to me)Mabelsound said:Another RFFer complained that the LCD was useless in bright sunlight, making it impossible to focus manually. Well 'better' is an interesting concept....I have the 14-42 zoom kit lens, but haven't really used it yet

Thanks Helen, I will - I already have Jupiter 3 50/1.5, Summaron 35/3.5, Summicron 50/2 and CV Heliar classic 50/2 in my bag. Good shooting weather permitting I'll post more tomorrow .

Would love to see some more rigorous tests, particularly from the m-mount "wides". With the Panny G1 there were reports that any m-mount below about 40mm began to show some "pixel smearing" in the corners. And there were some theories about why that may be happening. It seemed you had to peep pretty hard at the pixels, but it was shown in some posts with 100% crops (I think the Ultron 28 was one of the cases). So, does it happen with the E-P1 too?

Nice photos! Are these out of the camera jpgs or raw? Thanks!

I'm a shallow DOF junkie myself, so I like seeing your shots
I'm digging using M-glass on the E-P1... obviously you are too...

I sold my G1 as the pictures needed a lot of processing from RAW as the jpeg does not give any much punch by default even using manual focus lens. It seems so far I saw the picture from EP1 is better. Is there any comparison between the two?

These photos make the EP-1 more and more tempting for me. I own the 50/2 zeiss planar for my M6 and would like to use in on an EP-1.
And to think better cameras are coming.

I'm not really a pixel-peeper - I can't say I have noticed, yet.... but then I'm more of a 50/90 shooter and haven't used my 28 Ultron all that much...
Thanks Ampyguy! - these are all jpegs, straight from the camera.Ampguy said:Nice photos! Are these out of the camera jpgs or raw? Thanks!

The Zeiss planar is one of the best of the lens I have tested - very sharp with nice bokeh - the question is do you buy whats available today and enjoy - or wait until the next release??
