I'm not trying to be unhelpful, but now that you've got the lens, why not just take some pictures with it? The images will tell you all you need to know.

I bought becouse:
1)Small and light (compare with my Voigtlander 35mm f1.2 ASPH)
2)This lens condition like new with original hood, box, leather case, caps.
3)Good price for me (compare with ASPH)
I only got info from Antique & Classic Cameras , it is show (35 Summilux F1.4 Type 2 ( S7 ) $ 1,250-1,500 2,221,xxx to 3,253,xxx noted)
but my lens SN# is 360XXXX ???

yes, may be a little soft wide open in nearer distance, but ideal to take pictures in rooms like churches and distances of 10m and more wide open. There it is pretty good sharp with soft contrast. Use f/2 and smaller and you will get sharp pictures with moderate contrast.

what do you want to know?
It's a Leica black summilux 35/1.5.
It's almost useless wide open and pretty good stopped down. But any lens is good stopped down.
You probably paid a lot of money for it while the CV versions are much cheaper and better too.
But go out and take pictures and have fun.
Cheers,

Good match to your Canon 50/1.2.
Here are example pics: http://www.flickr.com/groups/86731438@N00/pool/tags/LeicaSummilux35mmf1.4
Apparently made in 1992 - at least the beauty ring.
Cheers,
Roland.

... likes film again.
According to the SN it belongs to the last batches made (in parallel with the titanium version) and should be assembled in Germany. It is said, that the last versions have better coatings and performs best (compared to earlier versions) but simply due to the design (double-gauss) it is still quite soft wide open and very prone to flare.
People either like or hate this lens, I like it a lot despite the flaws.
Post some photos !!

samy, great pic! wonderful capture of the woman.
jack: 35-40mm is a useful focal length on the R-D1. but you probly know that given your lens inventory. as others have said, why not shoot it, post some pics, and let's see how it works for you? based on what you own, you should be in a exc+ position to assess it.
can't help with lineage information, sorry.

thx, well all about this lens' flaws has been well summarized dozen of times ( lack of sharpness wide open + flare problem )
I really don't care about these defects since the 35mm summilux delivers a really unique character, and i'm not a sharpness addict ( use Rodinal , a good enlarger and you will get stunning b&w pics on FB paper )
here is an example of the flare problem ( pics were taken on Pont Alexandre III where there are lot of street lamps, so it's quite normal )
Tri-x in Rodinal @ 800-1600

Thank you for good example and very nice picture.
Samsam, you mean this lens has " flare problem " with wide open, but your picture looks good, like art effect, I think it is no problem for you right?
I will going to take test shoot soon.

Yes. It's pretty soft wide open and has that "Leica glow". I think I need to learn how to control that.

this is the reason why I love my Pre-ASPH 35 'Lux ... really there's nothing much you can do about the "glow". I would say you may want to learn when to take advantage of it.
