A week in hospital...

Whew...I was talking to someone about the car accident I was in (at age 17), and all the intestinal mileage that had to be taken out of me as a result, at which point the hospital "crew" took a look at my appendix, which was fine at the time, and decided to remove it. "You don't need it, and it'll only cause you trouble later", they said afterward. I never appreciated this "executive decision" until a few years afterward.

Roger: Glad you're on the mend. Take it easy getting back up to speed!

Trius: Really glad your wife is okay! That's perhaps the scariest call to get. Best wishes to her!

Roger,

Yes, she is silly. She had a good time, but later in the evening I think she "paid" for it. Ah well, she is, by her own admission, pig-headed.

She drives an '04 Honda Civic, which I imagine is a bit zippier than your Land Rover.

As for her hallucinations, they coincided with (were prompted by?) an evening move from the step-down unit to regular post-surgical ward, during a shift change which meant lots of noise and chaos. If I had morphine and experienced hallucinations, my guess is they might be strange, mystical in nature. But I don't want the oppotunity under those circumstances; I'd rather come by insight via a bit more conventional means. :)

Barrett: Thank you, I will convey your wishes as well.

Roger,
Been off the forum a while and came back to find this. Glad to hear that you are back home, that is good medicine, by itself. You do have my sympathy, my six pack looks more like a crinkled old road map of where the surgeon went on his last holiday. Enjoy your chair.

Glad you are OK Roger - I don't think I could dee'l with halucinations as well Earl !
Getting to that age when the NHS is becoming a habit .

Glad you're back!

Glad you're back!

I have been off the forum myself for the last few weeks, my wife is in cancer treatment and had septicemia. We had a very close call, but it now looks like she's on the mend as well. Glad to hear you're feeling better. Let us know your progress on the novel. One potential purchaser here for your novel, and that's sight unseen!

Seems it wasn't long ago I read Francis was in the hospital. Glad to hear you are recooping & hope you & Francis have a wonderful 2010 coming up. Also glad you wasn't put on a 6 month waiting list as some are reporting about European Healthcare!

Dear Jeff,

(And everyone else, but Frances had breast cancer in 2000 So I'm particularly sensitive to that). Thank God your wife is on the mend! I'll go and light some Tibetan incense for her. I'm less than convinced it has any specific, immediate effect, but equally, anything which makes you think of others and a better life for them is a useful contribution to the world at large and a useful antidote to those whose lives are devoted to hatred and a wish for others to fail.

Yes, Frances was in hospital for a week with a particularly vicious bronchitis about six months ago, but she's much better now. She still has PPR (pseudopolyarthrite rhizomelique) which mimics arthritis in one joint after another but that's going away (slowly) too: it normally lasts up to about 5 years and she's had it for about 3.

I've just woken up from 11 hours sleep (well, minus two trips to the bathroom at my age); 10 hours the night before; 9 hours the night before. Last Saturday/Sunday -- none at all (though I did have fun with the hallucinations).

Cheers, (incense now lit)

R.

Roger, you know my prescription, Fois Gras and d'Yquem -- no heavier lifting.

Bizarre year 2009, expect I will be very happy to see this one over.

Here's to a much improved 2010.

John

ps-- is it time for a thread on why you guys abstain from the use of the definite article in the use of Hospital? ;-)

Does it get you there faster?
Dear John,

Well, even Americans don't say "When I was at the school or at the university," so it must be what sounds natural.

Besides which, I was actually at three hospitals in a week: Accident & Emergency at Loudun Thursday/Friday, Thouars Friday for the operation, Poitiers (teaching hospital) Friday/Saturday/Sunday for super-intensive care after the complications, back to Thouars Sunday to Thursday, intensive care on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday morning.

Thanks for the good wishes,

Cheers,

R.
