In praise of the Olympus MjuII

I found it in my dad's drybox and ran a roll of Agfa APX 400 through it. I can't be any happier with it. Small enough to fit in my pocket, fast and discrete for street shots and a super quick AF..it's the perfect 'glovebox' camera! AND spot metering in a package this small!! It's perhaps more of a 'street' camera than my M6..

That 35mm 2.8 lens is a cracker as well.

The MjuII is a very capable camera indeed, I've had two in the past, and they took perfect pictures.. pity that they weren't a little more rugged. But they were tremendous fun.

The lens is the icing on the cake. And it better be for that matter, as the MjuII has a tendency to shoot wide open to minimize blur from camera shake. I recall seeing an exposure graph somewhere showing that it would only start to close down the aperture if it could shoot at least as fast as 1/125th.

Oh, and good shots! I especially like the cat picture..

I love using mine as well. I've got the DLX model with the panorama feature. Great fun!
Like the cat photo above. Just wondering, did you have it in spot meter mode when you shot this one ? Really like the OOF background. I prefer turning off the flash on it when ever I'm using this camera.

Austintatious, iirc, it wasnt on spot metering, but the metering of this little baby is spot on even on evaluative mode..I turn off the flash all the time as well.

In the the USA it was called the Stylus Infinity (maybe the II is slightly different). This camera I bought new and it has worked great. It has the best built in fill flash of any camera I've ever seen. Here is a picture of mine the front plate fell off about 15 years ago, it was cosmetic. And here is a photo I took in Turkey and a huge blow-up from that picture:

I have a couple of Mju 1 ? With f3.5 lens - charity shop finds one in box with instructions .
Are they any good too ?

I have the stylus with 35mm f3.5 lens. It won't do slower than a 1/30 second exposure with the flash turned off. Will yours do longer?

I shall have to look at the spec - I suspect that it has bugetary limitations like the Trip cameras .

MJU II is a Stylus Epic in the USA. The lens is the f2.8 version. The black Stylus Infinity
pictured above has an f3.5 lens. I own both of these cameras. Both take great photos!

I don't use mine as much as I should (it got left out of my bag when I downsized to the Domke F-5XB) but I really like the images out of this little camera. I found EKtar 100 to be a nice pairing with it.
