Other than Size will anyone consider the sonar 50 f1.5 or 50f2?

Heard the VC mid range apertures are not so good.

I use a 50mm Summilux asph as my normal lens. I only use the Noctilux when I really have to have that extra stop. I suspect the VC 50mm f1.1 is nearly as big and I just don't care to carry that much lens if I don't need it. Joe

Kodak and Ilford make VC paper. Cosina Voitlander make lenses.

Yes I would have a slower fifty because the CV is too big unless I really need the speed.

Your mileage may vary if you take pics in the dark all the time.

Suppliment it with a 2.8 Elmar last version. Mine is perhaps the nicest fifty I own, and I own probably a dozen Nikkor and Leica.

The VC stays in my darkroom.

50/1.0 + 50/3.5 makes perfect sense to me. One for the day-time and one for the shots "from dusk 'till dawn" :)

Actually, Kodak has not made black and white variable contrast paper in years. And Ilford calls theirs Multigrade. And nice we're nitpicking, it's Voigtländer, not "Voitlander."

Regarding the lens, it's up to you.

I would get a 50mm f2 along side a 50mm f1.1 anytime, the signature of the biogon is just splendid it would make it worth it.

I´d say get the C-Summicron alone. Creamy bokeh at 1.5, tack sharp stopped down.

The Nokton 1.1 is bulky (maybe too bulky for rangefinderland) and doesnt render that spectacular wide open. In fact, many were disappointed when the first samples appeared.

biogon? you mean the planar, don't you? or do you refer to the summicron?

you know.. i confuse myself, the 50/2 is a planar, the 50/1.5 is a sonnar, the 35/2 is the biogon... I mean the Zeiss 50mm f2! I got to shoot with it for a couple weeks and if i didn't need my right arm to shoot, i would have sold it for that lens, brilliant piece of glass.

From what I've seen, I've been very impressed with the 50mm f1.1's resolution at all f stops. Things at f4 and beyond looked sharper then the sensor or emulsion could capture. It's a "big" lens to be shooting mid apertures with, but it's certainly sharp enough for just about anything. Much more polyvalent then the Noctilux for example.
