I got mine last week from Stan Tamarkin--a demo model, $2400 with a one-year Leica warranty. I had asked him how many actuations and he said that he doesn't regard that number as meaningful and declined to tell me. Ended up being under 3000.
It's in great shape. I am totally in love with it. (Except for the covering--griptac is on order from Morgan.)

How was your experience with Stan? I'm thinking about buying an M8 or M8.2 from him. Did yours come with the original packaging, etc?
Thanks

WOW, quite frankly that's a poor attitude for a resellerr and is quite arrogant. I realize he has been around for a long time, ive purchased from him several times many years ago, but if he told me that I would have laughed and said no thanks.
I thought the number of actuations to be important in my decision. Shutters have "just so many" actuations in the mechanism before requiring a rebuild. There is a big difference in a camera with 500 and 20,000 actuations. I would argue that the lower-end demonstrates that it survived "infant mortality" and the higher-number represents about 1/2 of the MTBF for that type of shutter.

No box, it came with the charger, manual, and two batteries. (I think the extra battery was a mistake.) It is in great shape. Stan was otherwise ace--a bit brusque, but honest, quick service, a sensible guy. He actually sold me the thing on a Sunday, even though he isn't officially open!

Eh, suit yourself, but people expect too much out of retailers. He guaranteed the camera, so who cares if he's cantankerous? He has good prices, bought the cameras direct from Leica, who had just gone over them. As much as I trust sellers on RFF, I did not want to drop two and a half grand on a digital device with no warranty, and Stan had the goods. He's obviously one of those been-around-the-block guys who disdains fussiness and thinks you ought to quit worrying and start shooting, and I was happy to go along for the ride.

That's my feeling, too, and I'm glad mine came in rather low. I intend to use this camera for a very long time and want it to endure.

Asking a simple question that tells you how much use the camera has seen is expecting too much?? So you would buy a car from a dealer that would refuse to give you the mileage...really whats the difference?

Whatever, the guy comes from the film era, where there was no way to know--I'm sure he doesn't even check. If I didn't like it, I could have sent it back no problem. It was a demo, it wasn't going to be a beater...it just was not a big deal.
