How long from design selection to actual product in hand?
 
I edit and have to rewrite lots of evaluations, so let me provide an example for an effective poll.

1. Each design is presented on its own page; user rates each individually on a scale
2. All designs are presented together; user orders them in preference

Then evaluation rubric references the individual score of each design against its ranking in the group. You can't just have all the designs on one page and select one, since it is an inherent, even subconscious, tendency is to base preference on relative merit instead of absolute, i.e., the design that looks best in a group may not be the strongest on its own.

I spent several years working on textbooks with awful tests written by teachers (!) that just didn't evaluate anything. A constant disappointment.

Again, I'll be happy to set this up online and share real-time results with Tom and/or Disaster_Area, etc. Just let me know. 🙂
 
Thanks for all the offers of help... we're going to stick to a straight forward poll on the site... keeps things simple... keeps things quick... and it also ensures that only registered users are logging votes 🙂 I've got the site nearly set up and I'll post the submitted designs there for people to view at the end of the week.
 
I like Kevin's design the most. It has a nice retro and timeless look, and it seems to be simple enough to engrave with relative ease over some of the others. People aren't going to read the little things, after all.
 
I will likely get 3 or 4. Also, I will have to remember to apply nail polish to the threads. I lost one of Tom A's releases in the Nile last Thursday, just south of Luxor.
 
I think Yoyo's design, but with jsut the RFF, is very clever because the second hollow F looks like the rangefinder patch secondary image of the first solid F. It relies on the RF patch corner angles though, which would not translate well on a soft release.

I'm in for a couple, whatever design is chosen.

I am honored to know that one of my Softies is at the bottom of the Nile. Much better than watching one rolling into a street drain!
 
On Friday I'll be collecting all the proposed designs and getting everything ready... stay tuned for a new design vote poll on Friday night or Saturday!
 
I want one for a Bessa T, so I can quickly know which one I am using away from the sun.

Don't know if it should be big or small...

About the design, I guess the engraver and Mr. A will have the last word on which one is a better idea for technical reasons when engraving. I would prefer it as simple as possible. Being so small, a simple silver RFF logo alone on black would look great... But I'll get any of them.

I can not bring a disign here as I think it should be similar to general RFF design but the word "member" should be there.
It will be a kind of small medal of honor.

I guess I could live with silver and black... I really like Tom's idea using different color coded for different film. Great solution for leica Ms. I think I have about 10 of them, 6 regular, 4 mini. I have them on medium format cameras as well. Works like a charm.
