Hey everybody,

i have an offer to buy a Bessa R2 (color: olive) with the Ultron 35mm 1.7 I'm really interested, but i have a few questions.

1.) The Bessa has a Leica M mount, the Ultron a M39 screw mount. The offer includes an adapter (M39 to M). Are there any common problems using an adapter to mount the M39 Ultron on the M Mount Bessa? (Rangefinder, Infinity etc..)
2.) The colors are a bit exotic. The Bessa is olive, the Ultron silver. I would prefer black, but the price is good (i think), so i wouldn't have a problem with the colors. But what if i want to sell the camera and the lens sometime? Would it be a problem selling a olive Bessa? (unpopular etc..)
3.) The Seller wants 475euro for the complete set. (220€ Bessa R2, 230€ Ultron 35mm 1,7 and 25€ for the adapter and lens hood). Everything is in mint condition. A+ Would this be a fair price?

Thanks in advance!

i think it is very good price - especially for the ultron which sometimes get higher price and many people say it is great lens...

I don't own one but I've seen pictures of an olive Bessa and a silver lens and I think that combination is gorgeous!!!

I believe in general, the olive-colored Bessas are pretty desirable/

Good luck!

I have used the The Voigtlander and Leitz Adapters without problems. The thickness of the adapter is important for wide-angle (The Ultron) and Telephoto lenses. Some of the cheap Chinese adapters can be off in thickness, and can cause problems. The adapter has to be within 0.02mm of the correct thickness of 1mm. Check the name brand of the adapter, chances are it is a Voigtlander or Leitz: grab it. If it is a no-name, I would get the camera and lens for the stated price. I have the Black R2, 35/1.7 Ultron, and Leitz adapter. Great Combo. I use a Voigtlander adapter with a Canon 35/2.

I have an olive Bessa T that looks awesome with any lens. Go for it. The M adapters work well with LTM lenses, and the CV lenses are modern designs that give excellent focusing allignment with the adapter.

Go for it Dkphoto :)

The olive bessas are cooler than cool, and I think look better with the chrome lens. I have a black R2 but haven't owned anything other than FSU lenses for it (yet) via adaptors. As has been mentioned, named adaptors are worth paying more for.

Enjoy the camera :)

I think I saw this one for sale. I have to say I personally think the olive Bessa is very good looking. "Cooler than cool" - I agree. I would love to have one at some point. I have only one body, an M3, but I'd like to have a dedicated body for 35. If I can't save the dollars for a black paint M2 or M4 then the olive Bessa would be my next choice. Re: adapters and CV lenses - they're tops and would be a great introduction to RF shooting.

Go for it and enjoy the new rig.

An olive R2 + Ultron is in my book THE most desirable Voigtländer combination you can buy. I got an olive R2 when they came out and can't readily imagine getting rid of it. And the only reason the Ultron isn't my standard 35 is because I have a Summilux.

Cheers,

R.

Both the R2 (whatever color) and the 35 1.7 are great tools. You can pay more for stuff with red dots, but you'll be hard pressed to get better photos.

I can only agree that the Ultron 35mm is a superb lens. Its only downside is it is a bit bigger than a Summilux but apart from that (and I like its size) it turns out some lovely sharp pictures.

The olive R2 and silver Ultron 35mm was my first rangefinder combo and it looks pretty effin cool, let me tell you. I sold the Bessa to help fund an M6 purchase but looking back I wish I'd just saved the extra couple of hundred quid and kept hold of the R2. Good to see that there's still some out there being sold because I'm certainly going to go back to one in the future.
The Ultron is a marvellous lens and mine is permanently suck onto my M6 (with the m-mount adaptor) and I've never had a single problem with it.
Enjoy your purchase dk!

Lucky guy! Olive Panda R2 is the coolest combo to be found. The Olive bodies seem better made than black ones. I don't know maybe it's just the feel of the chrome shutter speed knob.
As others have said you will love the ultron. I wish it would come Bach in M mount.

Thanks at everyone, that sounds really awesome! I contacted the seller again and he told me, that the adapter is an original Voigtländer. So that should be no problem :)

Hey,

i got my Bessa today and it's really sweet

But there is one thing i "worry about".
When i wind the camera/film and release the winding arm, there is a strange noise like "ratsch". When i release the winding arm very slow, i don'thear any noise.
I know it's hart to describe, so i made a little video.
What do you think?

Wow...what's not to like about that combination? I'm not able to get your video to open so I can't comment on the noise issue.

Good luck,

Bob
