So I sold all my Canon gear on a (long) wait list for a M9 but really want a film M again used a M7/35Cron for 8 years.

I can buy a used MP for $3K mint with choice of .72x or .85x VF no ability to check the camera's out or their pedigree or useage or i can buy a new MP .72X from a dealer cash no credit card for $4300 with a full 3 Yr warranty. Is the warranty and or piece of mind worth the $1300 any comments would be appreciated.

I know if I look around I can find a used M7 for ~ $2K but suspect that number will increase by 25% if it needs serviced or VF replacement.

I guess I'm not answering your question, but I'd suggest not-so-mint MP that can be had for close to $2k mark.

MP is a great camera and I love mine, but I still believe it's definitely overpriced if you buy new.

Unless you are planning to keep it in mint condition with only occasional use, used one with some cosmetic blemishes can be found for much less and works as good. Of course you'll have to spend a bit more time to make sure you get one from reliable source in good mechanical condition, though.

So my vote is for an used one, but priced lower than $3k mark. (assuming you are in the US)

In terms of the potential viewfinder problem with the M7 you mentioned please note that most M7s (like mine) actually have the MP finder :)

Best of luck with whatever you choose, the MP is terrific!

Most of the older M7 have been upgraded to optical DX reader / MP-type VF so there should be no big surprises.

Andy,

Your comment is making me wanna buy a new one!! :D

Unfortunately, I couldn't afford a new one, especially with modified framelines that's only available as ala-carte, although I wanted (still do) to keep it for the rest of my life.

My used MP had a few wears already, but it's already gained several more battle scars since the last summer. You'll be happy with MP either used or new. Attachement will grow stronger over time. ;)

I have had about 4 m7s and none of them had the dx reader upgrade but 3 out of 4 had the mp finder. It makes a huge difference.
I ended up with a mp. No regrets.

i'd say it depends on what the most expensive repair costs. i have no idea what that would be...

Solms upgraded both of my M7's to the new optical reader at no cost and I it made a big difference to me. If you can get them to do it (it takes about 6 weeks from the US) it's worth it.
