Six-month follow-up on M9

So, you actually do care? Otherwise, you couldn't care less.

Jeff

Good for you, Jeff, pointing out how the original meaning of the expression has been distorted to mean just the opposite!

Not M9 related but there are minimum standards of language in order to be understood.

I've never understood how people make that mistake. If you think about what you're saying for even a second, you'd realize that it's "couldn't care less".

Anyway, I rarely turn my mind to the M9. I'm sure it's a fine camera, but there's no way I could afford one so it's performance is a moot point for me.

This discussion has popped up. Loses something in the written post. It's American Sarcasm, and the phrase is common to mean "I do not care at all". The "I could care less" translates via sarcasm to "I do not care at all about this subject".

So remember it this time around, and you've learned something. Or just use the search engine for the phrase. "Because I care".

In other words, is the M9 a viable tool for you to make photos?
No. I really thought that one was in my future but there are still issues that are unacceptable to me. I have a great small(ish) dSLR for color pix that is completely reliable with no issues whatsoever. A wonderful camera that I'm totally happy with. Color is <5% of my output and I'm using film Ms for my B&W work and that's not going to change.

I'll look at the M10 if/when it comes along.

You give people too much credit. When I've pointed this out, in person, the speaker usually has no clue.

Jeff

PS This is how words like "irregardless" eventually make it into the dictionary. Ignorance and common usage promote acceptance.

My batting average

My batting average

But I think you should review your consideration that a 50:1 hit rate is 'terrible'. Most pro's or artists would bite your hand off to achieve anything close to that, film or digital. Its only Uncle Fred's 36 holiday exposures that are all keepers, the rest of use should be a bit more critical of our own work.

Steve

Steve, you're stepping on my ego. A good photographer with a range finder camera is akin to a good shot at skeet or a sports cars driver who still remembers how to double clutch and slide under power through a turn.

I love my III f because it's really a challenge and keeps me honest, but fish tales aside, my film M models batting ratio is usually around 500 and I'm damn proud of that. Under 300 and I kick myself to the point of losing sleep.

My digital batting average is something quite different. There is no feeling of 'am I going to miss this putt?' Or, 'I can see my composition fall into the cross hairs'. The feel for 'the hunt' just isn't there. Digital is somewhat careless machine gun composition that feels damn self indulgent.

Anyway, my digital batting average is rarely above 100.

Photography is just one of several hobbies of mine. The M9 crosses the line for me on what I'm willing to spend on a camera. Not so much the initial cost as the heavy depreciation, which didn't used to be the case with film cameras. Now that I'm no longer travelling as often as I used to, $1000/yr depreciation on a camera just doesn't make sense for me. But when there are demos/refurbs around, then maybe I'll pounce.

Irrespectagardless. Thread-jack via snark. Ben Z voices my views exactly on the M9. I salivate, but at a distance. Glad to know that a real-world user is enjoying the experience though. Thanks to the OP for that.

I had an M8. Sold it in a few months. Now use an EP2 - MUCH better system.

Do I want an M9? Absolutely. But is it worth the price? Definitely not. I'd rather buy a ticket to Mongolia, CHina, and Nepal (which I did) and take a ton of pictures there with my EP2 than get an M9.

That being said, I would trade in a heartbeat if someone offered.

If you heard me say it in person, based on the tone in which it is spoken, you could not mistake it for anything but sarcasm. But, it would still be in error. You would just get a look over the top of my glasses if it were really true, and nothing stated.

And on topic, I love the M8 and the M9 would be even better. But I still put the cash into a long-term CD that matures just in time for Nikki to start college.

I just finally got an M8 and it's wonderful. I would love an M9 someday. I handled one last week and was quite charmed. It feels perfect.

As for internet grammar policing, it's hopeless. Today's mistakes are tomorrow's cherished norms. Language is being born on the internet; resistance is futile.

I would say any digital cam like M9 or M8 is good cause you have more chances to take the shot when you have fresh batteries and working memory cards just stating the fact that when both supplies are run out you can't take the damn picture!
Well when you have that lovely shot (after deleting the thousands worthless digital junk) the only drawback is that this wonderfull moment of life is just a digital file, it is missing "soul". Bits are virtual, film is real!
Anyway I would love the M9 cause it is trendy and super sharp camera but at 7000 bux cmon... 2000/3000 new would have been more actual and less over the top!
6 months after revolution 909 the demand is still high and leica wasn't obviously expecting this following 10 years ago when they fail to enter the digital dance. A shame this camera is so expensive for a disposable digital camera which it is in the end... The sensor will die in ten years, they all do...
I know I know empty debates there but that is all that is to say imho...

Jeff S,
I hope you are being sarcastic yourself with THAT response. lol

Huh? All I said is he's giving people too much credit. Proper grammar is not in vogue.

Jeff

PS My M8.2 works fine. No need for an M9.

Tron Out.
In context:
"What happened to you? Haven't answered Email for weeks.";

"Tron'd out working on some code".

Told that to someone to describe non-stop coding until a project was finished, pegging at 300 lines per day. He entered it into some computer-geek-speak dictionary.

I just thought your point about grammar was stated rather aggressively. Maybe I was wrong.

Love my M8 to pieces for what it is.
Am selling off my DSLR for a heavier, sturdier DSLR.

Can't afford an M9 for a loonnnngggggggg time. I can dream, but c'mon - why frustrate myself?

Cheers to all M shooters (sepiareverb: patience!) out there making exquisite full-frame pics. Here's to looking from the outside in ...for now.
