Picked this one up a few weeks ago.

Leica III vintage 1934...

Factory upgrade to IIIfbd flash sync specs. Note the addition of the 1/1000th shutter speed.

I have an identical 111a camera with later serial numbers updated to 111f flash standard with larger speed dial and collar and with its standard 1936 Elmar 50 having been (presumably factory ) coated at the same time as the other update. I love it. These pre-war camera models are hard to find in excellent condition like yours (and mine) but when you do they are delightful - small, discrete and nice to use. The upgrade is the cream on the cake, making them something a bit out of the ordinary.

I picked up another IIIa yesterday in need of new curtains. Got it with a Summar for $45.

I finished building the new curtains a few minutes ago and will be installing them later this evening.

Hope to have it working tomorrow.. These III's and IIIa's are a lot quieter than the IIIc and IIIf

Nice Erik, is this a "real" one, have you gotten the factory to verify it yet???

IIIC looks really good with Black paint, it's a shame Leica didn't open up a large series of these at this time, their chrome was contaminated and most Sharkskin cameras have poor chrome, they would have been better off bringing the black paint back, it was just too early a time for sales, black paint was'nt in vogue again till 1958/59.

Tom, I haven't contacted the factory, but the "dept" of the stamping of the logo (as I explained in the other thread) and the quality of the paint job strongly suggest it is genuine. In any case it is not a stripped chrome repainted one.
It could have been done for a customer who was not satisfied with his poor chrome.

The camera runs extremely smooth, it is doubtless fitted with ball bearings. It is MUCH smoother than ordinary post-war IIIc's
