Rob, the old analog photographer adrift in a sea of computer confusion, is back. I tried to load my Photoshop Elements 2 onto my iMac and MacBook. At first it looks like it's going to work. The flowery Elements 2 logo shows up on the dock, happily bouncing up and down. There is something to click on for installation. But then I got a message, "You are not logged in as an administrator."
Fine. That should be easy to solve. I packed the iMac and the Macbook into the car and hauled them both down to the Apple store for a "Genius" consult. In 10 minutes flat, I was told the program is too old, it is not compatible with OS X Snow Leopard. Same way for Elements 3.
Fine. I can take it. Back home, I summoned up Amazon and found I could buy Elements 8 for $77.00. Not bad. Then I read the reviews Amazon posts. Several people said they didn't like elements 8. Too different from earlier versions. I could sympathize, I don't even like the changes from elements 2 to 3. They made it more complicated. i like simple.
So now I'm wondering, what is the very earliest version of Elements that will actually run on OS X Snow Leopard? I see I can buy various versions of Elements on eBay, such as 4 and 6; but don't know which version to shoot for.
The main thing I want from Elements is the perspective correction feature. I can do most everything else, and probably do it better, within Aperture.
Thanks fo any words of advice!

I'm not sure if it's the earliest version, but I have Photoshop Elements 6 on my Macbook running 10.6.3. Hope that helps.

PSE 6 is the first version that runs natively on an intel mac. The versions before were designed for the power pc chip and only run in an emulated mode on intel chips. When they even run. The emulator is slow and needs more ram. So get PSE 6

Will do. Thanks, Tom!
Rob, you might also look at a Mac shareware program called GraphicConverter, which has evolved way past its original functions into photo editing. After RAW conversion, this is the program I use for final editing, including color/white balance, rotating/straightening horizons, skewing for perspective correction, curves, sharpening and resizing for the web. Register PSE if you are considering buying Photoshop, even just a little. Adobe seems to send out email every once in a while to registered PSE users offering PS below half price.

The plague of upgrades!
The plague of upgrades!
A few months ago I bought a new Dell desktop. My old hard drive was dying and this was cheaper than repairing. Naturally, my much loved Photoshop Elements 2 would not work with Windows 7.
I bit the bullet + bought version 8. There is a bit of a learning curve but it's not that different from version 2. I would just install it and get used to it.
My Mac laptop has Photoshop 4. The machine is a few years old and the OS is pre leopard. etc.
These upgrades are an unfortunate fact of life. I also had to buy a new version of Quicken and Office for the new Dell.
