Stop down! I want to see everything in focus!

I decide ahead, if I want all in focus or just the subject... I do use the Hyper-focus scale quite a bit too. with my 28 and 35, I almost always shoot this way... always ready... but I tend to have about 5-15 in DOF area. not 5-INF.
Some very interesting images.. Good Topic..

The same here... I don't care about infinite sharpness unless infinite is the main subject.

The things I tend to photograph, are most of the times just a few meters from me, and disappear in seconds, so for them I can't use the same systems I use for other kinds of shooting. Prefocusing and stopping down is a great way to shoot. If I have time, I can use shallower depth of field to emphasize... As someone said recently (I think it was Roland) composition is more important for isolation and narrative than out of focus zones.

Cheers,

Juan

I always use hyperfocal when I'm out at the streets... I don't own a wide angle lens since I'm using a fixed 45mm lens on a konica autos2.. and I don't have a meter so sunny16 and changing aperture values works for me...

A couple more examples (maybe) of what the OP has in mind (perhaps?): With a 35:

What I have in mind is that you could take the bench and people out of this photo and still have an interesting and well composed photo of the background. So you have included the two elements into the same photo. Rather than focusing your attention on the subjects here and letting the background get sloppy, ect.

As soon as your see your subjects you swing around and give full attention to the background, then place the subjects within the composition so it all works.
