Hello All,

Anyone heard from DAG lately?

I sent him my M3 for CLA 3 months ago.

Despite numerous emails to him about how the CLA was going, no response from him, not even a word to acknowledge receipt of the camera by him.

What is his normal turnaround time?

Regards,

Last bodies I sent in for CLA took 6 months. I think DAG and others are getting buried by work. You might try calling rather than email.

Turn around time can be many months, I've heard. He is very popular. I've heard that email communication is not the best way with DAG. Also, he could be taking a vacation.

Had word in the last 24 hrs when inquiring about some parts. He's had a mail server crash. Try calling or re-send your e-mail.

Any thing associated with Leica seems to have a rather slow turnaround... Any alternatives? I just got a 50 lux with some oil in the blades which I am quite disappointed.

Try Essex Camera in Carlstadt NJ - they're good and quick, though their fees for a simple diaphragm cleaning are likely higher than Don's.

Sherry Krauter has been pretty consistent with a 2-3 week turnaround for CLAs on both cameras and lenses the last few months (most recently, a Leica M6 .85VF that she fixed up and upgraded the viewfinder for me--got it back last week after sending it off 2nd week of June). The only exception was the pre-ASPH 50mm (46mm filter version) Summilux I sent her to repair a loose aperture ring and do a CLA; she had to send to Leica, and that took close to 4 months (but it did come back pristine).

Thanks for all your replies.

Still, I think it is pretty poor to not respond to emails no matter how many one receives.

As somoeone in the service industry, I would quickly get the sack by my clients if I failed to respond to their queries.

I guess if you are a one man show and considered 1 of, if not the best in the business, people will wait.
He's usually got a 3-6 month back-log

Also, a phone call usually does the trick. I know I'm not as good at answering emails as I should be, but when the phone rings, I answer it.

I talked to Don after my M6 had arrived a week earlier. He asked when I would like to have the camera back, it arrived back to me on time as we had agreed. Overall turn around was just over a month. (For a CLA, frame line masking and finder upgrade.)
I'm very happy with the results.
