2 - 1.5/50 Nokton and 2/50 collapsible summicron. very different lenses, both very good.

I have 3 35mm's though :D

oh wait I have a 50mm for the Mamiya 6, but that's probably not what this is about .

Five in my possession, though the Konica is my father's, really.

1974 Jupiter-8
1959 Summilux-M
Voigtländer Heliar Classic (250th Anniversary)
Nikkor 1.7 pancake from the 1980's (came with F3)
Hexanon 52/1.8 (came with Autoreflex T3)

Jupiter-8 (x3)
Helios-103 (x2) ... technically a "53mm" lens, but close enough, I figure.
Industar 61 L/D

Summicron DR (no goggles)
Zeiss Planar T*50 ZM
Nokton F1.1
Elmar F2.8 collapsible

And a handful of SLR lenses.

I find that each brand / design of 50mm has its own signature. I choose a lens according to what film I'm using and the mood I'm in. I like having the versatility... :)

Hi Brian,

That's almost beyond my imagination... And the most incredible thing is, for sure you know them all very well! One day it would be nice to read an article of yours on 50's...

Cheers,

Juan

I own four 50's.

  • Fed 50/2.0 LTM - only registers correct on the FED-S I own, 1941
  • Perfex Wollensak Velostigmat 50/2.8 LTM - hacked to Leica Mount, 1940-ish
  • Carl Zeiss Jena Sonnar 50/1.5 LTM - wartime Sonnar, 1943 made
  • Konica Hexanon 50/2.4 LTM - only modern 50mm lens I own, 1997

I own four, all of which see use.

DR Summicron:
- Its sharpness and overall contrast make it my favorite all-rounder for black and white film.
Pre-ASPH Summilux:
- For its lovely and unique rendering.
Summilux ASPH:
- When that certain technical tastiness is the desired effect, in almost any lighting situation, at any aperture, at every focus distance.
Sonnar-C:
- My favorite lens on the M8. I wish they made a 35mm equivalent so I could use it with an effective 50mm-ish FOV too.

I own many 50mm RF (LTM and M) lenses because I love using them all. Leica Photography is about using a 50mm lens after all, isn't it.

In no particular order:
Summicron rigid
Summicron collapsible
Summarit
Summitar
Summar
Elmar 3.5
Elmar 2.8
Heliar Classic 2.0
Heliar ("3D") 3.5
Carl Zeiss Jena 50/2
Carl Zeiss Jena 50/1.5
Carl Zeiss Tessar 50/2.8 LTM
Luxon 50/2 LTM
Many FSU 50mm lenses too.

This is happiness in its purest forms.

P.S. I forgot to list these lenses:
Canon 50/1.2
Canon 50/1.5

OK, let's see. Those that will mount on my M's naturally or with am adapter include:

Noctilux 1.0 with Built in hood
Summicron 2.0 (newest)
Collapsible Summicron 2.0
Elmar 2.8 (latest)
Summitar
C-Sonnar 1.5
Heliar 3.5
Collapsible Heliar 2.0

Lots of others in different mounts, including Nikon S, Contax C/Y, Contax N, Nikon F and Leica R. In short, I love 50's :)

On the SLR side, I have a 50mm 1.8D. Simple, gets the job done. I picked up a 1.4 advertised as a AI lens but it was a late non AI lens... I'm still deciding what to do with it.

You can always turn it into an AIS lens. I don't know who would do the trick but ask about and you'll find out.

10 including two macros: 1 in LTM mount (Red Scale Elmar); 2 in M mount (classic Elmar 2.8, Summilux v2); 1 in EF mount (50/1.4), 6 in C/Y mount (2x CZ Planar 50/1.4, S-Planar 60, Yashica ML's 50/2, 50/1.4 and 55/2.8).

I have 3 total, all LTM. Sold off my EF mount 50/1.8, my FD 50/1.4 and 50/1.8, and now only have my 50/1.5 Summarit and 2 different versions of the Jupiter8.

Oh, and the 52/2.8 Industar, though I've yet to use it. It was a free lens, has some scratches on the front and rear element and is also the slowest lens I have in LTM, so it never gets touched

Don't know the exact number...
As far as R are concerned, I've got quite a few Canon 50mm, like
  • 50/0.95
  • 50/1.4
  • 50/1.5
  • 50/1.8
  • 50/2.8
The 0.95 and the 1.5 being really interesting. I like the 50/2.8, too.
Then a FSU 50/2.0 (jupiter-something), a nice Wartime Zeiss sonnar, a (beaten up) summicron wetzlar and, coming to me right now, a Planar 50/2 (supposed to become my first choiche together with the Canon 50/1.5).

Then I've got a couple of 50mm for DSLR (including Canon 50/1.2).
Well, I'm quite fond of this focal length, being my first choice for every assignement

I have had Quite a Bunch but am Happily down to Two.... of which I ADORE :D
1989 Lux, 1970 Cron
