Hello friends, I want to show the only two person that I have been assaulted in the street taking pictures of them.
The first is this lady that when I take a photo of her I stop paying attention and when I realized I was already wet with urine that was in a bottle that she kept with, I never expected to have such weapons: s
The second photograph shows a man I took picture before crossing the street, while I was waiting for the green began to threaten me with two sticks, I had to leave the place.
I never really had conflicts taking pictures, but I think I have a lot of guilt by portraying people who may be offended by take pictures.:bang:

Even including these 2 unfortunate instances for you, I'd guess their problems in life are much greater than yours.

I still think about a time that I was mildly assaulted and yelled at by an older Greek macho man on the Danforth in Toronto. He was furious that I was taking a picture of a doorstep of a rundown apartment building he owned. It was such an unexpected shock from being in an introspective photography zone mental state.
That has been my only negative encounter due to photography.

It could be dangerous FrankS. I always try to caught expressions all I can. But sometimes it could be risky, many friends photographers were beaten by people.

Ride, dive, shoot.
I wouldn't take photograph of homeless people (unless there are personal connections btwn us one way or another, or the subject's identity is extremely vague like silhouette and the whole scene works as a whole) or anyone in trouble. I'm not shooting street for some specific professional assignment or anything. It coule be hard to determine if a person would be offended by picture taken, but I imagine if I'd want to show the picture to someone or present somewhere when I choose the subject matter. If the answer is no, I wouldn't shoot that, and there is a larger chance that the subject wouldn't like that picture taken or shown to someone, neither.

You are right Coelacanth, I started this Thread because I wanted to share the situation. My intention was to show that my desire to capture many expressions brought me to meet with an unwanted situation for people I'm photographing or me. I did not know that these people had problems, but I think my intention was apparently misunderstood.

Exactly. Looking at their pictures, I likely would not have taken pictures of either of them.
Then again, I rarely take pictures of people anyway.

The OP has shared a lesson learned through experience. Thank you for that.

hahaha you are welcome.

The best camera is one that still works!
It's inevitable that this will happen ... homeless people or otherwise. Wander into the business centre of any city and start photographing the well heeled sipping on their capucinos and discussing the money market or their latest aquisition and you're every bit as likely to be given the one finger salute or worse.
To make an omlette you have to break some eggs Israel ... keep doing what you do and maintain your belief that you are exercising your right as a photographer and artist.

I was chased once.
The owner of this falafel cart in NYC too umbrage at me shooting pix of his establishment.
I explained, as calmly as I could, that one of the great things about his adopted country is that the police wouldn't arrest me for taking pictures in public. As you can see, I didn't exactly make a portrait here. nor, to the best of my knowledge, did I steal any of his trade secrets.
Since 9/11, many normal, mentally well-balanced folks have become paranoid. Obviously, some of the paranoid schizophrenics have become more paranoid and more delusional. Moral of the story, I guess, is if your subject looks deranged and violent, either walk away or use a longer lens.

Enjoy Life.
Israel- It is a delicate issue taking pictures of certain subjects, quite an experience. That said I am glad you weren't actually injured.
By the way, the "urine throw" happens in Mexico on occasion. Ask any US National team soccer player as they've been hit with bags of urine when they play South of the Border.
Example:
August 13, 2009
Mexico Fans Hurl Vomit, Urine at Landon Donovan: In the 2-1 loss to Mexico at Azteca Stadium yesterday, U.S. striker Landon Donovan was the target of a cup of vomit, a cardboard container of urine, bottles and trash during a corner kick. "Mexico once again made the most of what is perhaps the most unfair home advantage in international soccer," writes Martin Rogers of Yahoo Sports.
