I have the opportunity to purchase a 35mm nokton 1.2 for

Chrome 1,316 USD
Black 943 USD

I already have the chrome one and I paid around 840 USD for it BNIB about 2 years ago......I do not collect cameras or lenses, but I am thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea to pick one up and just "sit" on it and never use it......If I never end up needing it, I could always sell it or trade it for something down the road.......

What would you guys/gals do?

I remember when i first got into Leica cameras, around 2000-2001 the Noctilux was a lot cheaper than it is today.....just wondering what will happen to this lens in the future...

cheers, michael

p.s. I am not flush with money, but I can afford one of the two and I'd be ok....oh, and there is only one of each lens.....I am giving myself 24 hours to think about it....and to hear from you......

I bought a black one for less then that and I plan on selling it for a lot more. A LOT more once I'm done using it.
If I was you, I'd do it. Whats the worst that can happen?

I am buying the black one now.....I just read what others have responded in the other thread about the price increase......

cheers, michael

Yeah, I am happy that I bought it today....I like the black finish and it looks really cool.....but, I do not plan on using it...I just want to hang onto it for awhile and see what happens with them in a couple of years.....It is also good insurance in case something happens to my chrome one....

cheers, michael

I probably wouldn't have purchased it, simply because I no longer buy cameras / lenses that I'm not going to use. Years ago I went through a stage of purchasing 'back up' bodies for my Leicas just in case something terrible happened to them. It never did and I ended up with a load of cameras, the last of which I sold last year. The money I made from them enabled me to purchase lenses I'd wished I'd purchased years ago, but didn't because I had the money tied up in back up bodies - if that makes any sense!

But then again, as an Equitable Life policy holder I'm probably the last person to know a good investment / deal!

cheers, michael

Thanks John.....I appreciate your comment

I bought my black one (like new, in box etc.) about 2 years ago for the equivalent of a little more than $700 which, even at the time, was a very good price (thanks again, yanick). kind of hard for me now to imagine spending ~50% more for the same thing.
buuuuut, I don't have a spare $700 anyway, so I guess it doesn't really matter. :D

I hear the replacement is a 35/1.0 Super-Nokton that takes 39mm filters, has a user-detachable tab, and will cost $495! :D

Hello Simon.... I think I paid around 750 USD for my Chrome one BNIB 2 years ago....I remember at that time the black and the chrome were the same price.....I knew that the chrome was a limited edition so I went for it.....I just paid about 943 USD for the black one......I had some extra money and I just went for it......

cheers, michael
