I just bought a Yashica T Zoom. I was tossing up between it and a Contax TVSIII.
The reason that I bought it is that it represents extremely good value. The Contax was quite a few hundred dollars more.
Before this I owned a T2, liked the interface but not the contrasty vignette pictures it took. The T Zoom produces more moderate contrast with the same protection against flaring.
I also purchased a T3, didn't like the interface and plastic small buttons, plus it is a lot of money for what you get. The pictures were well corrected but very contrasty.
My favorite fixed angle point and shoot was probably the Leica CM. It has an even better lens than the Minilux (finder too small) with better controls. Sold mine because apparently it is very difficult to find a place to get it serviced. Also, it was too much money.
Haven't tried the Ricoh, the Minolta or the Nikon so can't comment on them.
So recently got a T Zoom as that represents the best value I could find of all them with that Carl Zeiss lens.

I'd have a hard time choosing between the Klasse W or GRD III, luckily, I don't have to.

Not sure if you consider the Minolta CLE to be a compact.
Otherwise, Film: Contax T3. Digital: Leica X1.

Film: Contax T2. Shutter lag is a problem but it delivers the quality in a small package.

Does a Leica III count?

The only compact I own is the LX5 which I'm really happy with. So I guess I'll keep that.

Leica Mini 3, produces superb slides.
Has FAR outlasted the Minilux bought the same day in 1996.:bang:

Hexar AF for me too

Shooter of Film...
I think I own 3 at this time...
The one I would keep would be the Yashica T* AF 35mm 3.5
Although I haven't used it much it would be the best of the bunch...

If you had to get rid of all your P&S camera's but were offered the opportunity to keep one only. Which would it be?
Mine is the Ricoh GR1v.

In the classic RF P&S, I guess it would be between my XA or my Canonet 17 QL III. But I have a black Petri Computer 35 that would give either of them a run for the money. I would probably go for the Canonet.
In a P&S with auto focus, I only owe one in 35mm, the Leica Mini Zoom. A surprisingly good camera.

My preference is for film and my favored p&s is the contax t3 with the ricoh gr1v a close second.
I actually prefer the lens characteristics of the ricoh but much prefer the size and the 35mm focal length of the contax.
Can't wait for the contax T3.2!
Had a leica cm, ran half a roll of film through it and sold it. Not for me.
The hexar af has the 'best' lens IMHO, but the size/weight of the camera along with the 1/250 sec shutter relegate it to third on my list for carry everywhere p&s.

That sounds like an interesting camera - I haven't heard of that one before. I recently purchased the Yashica Kyocera T Zoom and it has a killer lens for the cost.
Many dedicated street shooters swear by the Yashica T4 and the T Zoom has a very similar lens.
Does the the Yashica T have Carl Zeiss optics like the Yashica T Zoom?

Hexar AF. If I could keep two, I would keep two Hexar AFs.

Fuji Natura Black, though as mentioned lots before, lovely lens with lack of any control.
