It's not nice. Just a few years ago (5) new M7s and MPs had whole page 'feature' advertorials for £1649 in the Jessops catalogue, now they must fetch that 2nd hand.

I think I am just going to get out of Leica all together and sell my one remaining M6 that I can't seem to find a decent 35/2 Leica lens for. Not even ZM 35 can be found for a decent price.
I need to make a living with my gear and as far as Leica is concerned, they can shove it where the sun does not shine, writing the "Pro" department and telling them that, this just sucks working guys like me![]()
And is it really necessary to say that about leica?

I noticed that B&H and Adorama seems to have a shortage of M bodies too. Just when I am looking for an M3. Realistically I am looking at getting one this summer. Maybe prices will head back down.

Realizing that they could not afford an M9 many jumped on other M bodies to go with their M8s.

I feel very lucky to have gotten my M4 at a great price a month ago. I had been checking KEH, and then they all seemed to disappear suddenly...ebay prices are way up too!

Still can't believe I paid $550 for my M5 from Adorama last year. They even had one up in worse condition for $800 only a week later.

Actually I think the strengthening of M prices is a good thing.
If your fortunate enough to have an M camera and lens then your gear is worth more now than what it was 12 months ago.
Of course this doesn't help people who don't have an M yet. All I can say to you is hang in there and keep looking.
Occasionally a bargain crops up...
Meanwhile... keep taking pictures and feel safe in the knowledge that your gear isn't depreciating in value.

Negative Nancy.
People start using more M mount lenses for various digital bodies, M9 included. Many also probably decided they wanted a 35mm body as well; drove up prices.

Here in Japan, used market Ms have plenty of stocks (good condition too). But whats surprising is that prices of older Ms in good/working condition (M3,M2 and M4) are nearly close to newer M6. M5 somehow remain same like before from 80,000 - 120,000 yen depending on condition. LTM (IIIGs have the same price as M6) are quite pricey too when they are in mint condition or rare ones.

an off topic but related point: since i'm searching a 50lux for months, I found most modern 50mm m lens going crazy in price, the same situation as 1-2 years ago for 35mm lens and they're going down. I guess it's about the m9 substituting m8. should have seen it earlier!!!

That's an interesting observation.
This makes it hard for starving students, like myself, get a leica.. Already have a IIIF but am looking for a M6, or m6ttl. The cheapest I've seen them go for is about 1,300CAD but with no lens.. however i did spot a couple of nokton f1.1 50mm's for about 800.. still pricey when you have no income. haha
Sorry, but you're not starving if you are even thinking about leicas.
I have a feeling that other countries are buying from the US and selling in their countries.

Don't use eBay prices as a yardstick; dealer prices can be lower. It's amazing what stuff sells for on eBay if the listing says it's RARE! and SOUGHT AFTER!

A bit off topic, but just look at what Noctiluxes fetch now. One of the sponsors is advertising a used mint coded 1.0 for 7800 USD . These were about 6000 just a few
months ago.

I think it's mostly a reflection of the economies in the world, but a starker contrast would be leica's prices from circa. 2005 -- about the time lots were speculating that leica would go out of business.

The cost of a new MP from an authorized dealer (what is it? $4000 plus and the same camera wqs originally $2500 new) certainly leads to higher prices for used MP cameras. Clean examples of M2, M3, and M4 cameras will always have a market, since so many were made.

That's really me
Igor has a handful of M's at decent prices (for 2011), certainly lower than what you'd find on ebay.
