Hi All,

I'm looking for a slim UV filter for fit the X100, there are some fairly chunky ones out there anyone with some slim profile uv filter recommendations?

See Brandon Remlers blog. In his March 25th entry, he shows an X100 unboxing vido with some additions about camera accessories. Go to 00h 03' 51'' where he shows mounting a B&W 49mm slim UV filter.

Yep I'm familiar with that video, that's where I found out about the slim uv filters, however if you go to the B+W site, there is a myriad of filters and I'm just not sure on which one.

B+W popular mounts:

F-PRO - 'Standard' Filter mount (threaded front).

SLIM - 3mm thick, but no front thread; can't mount other filters or clip-on lens caps.

XS-PRO - 3.5mm thick, but with a front thread. Not as deep as standard mount, but should accept other filters or clip-on lens caps.

XS-Pro mounts are available in UV Haze (010) or Clear Protector (007), both Multi-coated (MRC). I bought a 49mm clear protector, but so for no stock of the adaptors/hoods!

I dare to say Hoya HMC slim only as BW filters (even slim) makes my Hexar AF lens stuck when close focusing. Did never happen with Hoya.

When I decided to get UV filters for my Mamiya 6 lenses (serve mostly to shield the lens) I googled a lot until I found a very interesting REVIEW of UV filters. I got myself the Hoya UV (0) which accidentally are also one the the cheaper ones. They are well done - I have not had any ghosting issues (though I mostly do use the hoods)

I guess that when I buy a filter, I not only expect that the passed or blocked areas of the spectrum are appropriate, but at optical and mount quality. After all, why spend bushel baskets full of money on a good lens and then stick the bottom of a coke bottle on it for a filter? I really wish that when sites evaluate filters, that they would evaluate optical and mechanical quality, too.

any thoughts on if the clear protector alos blocks out UV haze? - still trying to decide between 010 vs 007 and which is better suited for the X100 - your opinion/advice?

I have a b+w clear 007 on mine - best filter on the market. The Hoya UMC filters are optically just as good though, just not as nicely built/finished.

But for sure, if you want to save some money just get a Hoya UMC - it's literally just as good.
