So I finally bit the bullet and bought a very nice "EX+" GW690III from KEH (actually it's waaay nicer than I expected - I'm stoked!)
When I tried to put a B+W 67mm clear filter on it (I plan to do some shooting near the surf), at first I thought there was something wrong with the thread as it didn't seem to engage, it felt way too loose. I used a clip-on lens cap - which fits the lens threads perfetly - to grip the filter and was able to carefully screw it fully into the threads on the lens, but it's not really "tight" and it sure does feel like the threads are not the right size, event though it says 67mm in the manual I downloaded. The B+W filter came off a Nikon lens so I know how it normally feels when attaching it (i.e. pretty much the same as all my other filters and lenses)
Is this common? Are the Fuji threads somehow different from standard 67mm filter threads? They can't be a different pitch or it would jam - wouldn't it? I also plan to use a Hoya G filter for B&W. I have never come across this before (except with a step-up ring that was machined incorrectly) - any ideas?

The built in slide out hood.
The built in slide out hood.
People commonly have beefs with the way the slide in/out hood on the big Fuji rangefinders. Particularly on the III series. Is that getting in your way somehow... as in not all the way in? Are you comfortable with the need to slide that hood in a way that does not cock and bind it going in or out?

Scott, the threads should be standard like every other 67mm filter thread on the market. The one on my GW670III are 67mm and the filter screws in perfectly tight. Can you see if your threads are a little stripped?

Hi guys,
Kuzano - it's more the outer rim of the lens rather than the hood that gets in the way, as the hood retracts flush with the barrel (see pic). That's why I had to use a center-pinch lens cap (Tamron; Nikon also works well) to grip the filter without risking getting fingerprints all over it (the B+W multicoated filters work great but are just awful to clean). It just feels slightly looser than it ought to IMHO
Gary - I checked the threads and they are absolutely cherry (pic). It's almost as if they are the right pitch but machined on a very slightly larger diameter than normal. Both 67mm filters feel exactly the same in this respect - even when they're screwed in several turns, you can move (and rattle) them around by maybe 0.010" / 0.25mm laterally which doesn't sound like much but feels wrong. At least they do go on and seem to stay on okay so maybe I'll just chalk it up to a tolerance stack-up and stop worrying
