Oh yes and his 'financial columns' Makes me wonder if the EU leaders and the USA are still pouring over and following his 'advice' today. I believe the colloquial term is " a crock..."

How does anyone actually concentrate on two things at once? If you're not really concentrating on the music, you're not really listening to it. Come to that, you may not even be hearing it, unless you specificaly turn your attention to it. All my life, I've thought that people who listen to 'background music' must care even less than I do about music.

It took me years to realize that most people cannot do more than one thing at once, and it always baffled me. Even specifically to music, I remember hearing (while totally confused --me, that is--) my music appreciation teacher in High School explaining away Baroque music as "difficult to follow" due to its polyphony. I can distinctly follow up to five or six distinct voices at the same time (depending on the quality of the recording or the players).

There is nothing wrong with not being able to do more than one thing at once, but I do read a lot of people complaining to those that can. Which has nothing to do with what you're saying.

But in any case, I wanted to chime in on that question you had: there are some of us who, apparently, do not give it a second thought. In fact, I work far better when I am listening to music than when there is silence. Yet, I can work better in silence vs. having music on and somebody making noise in the background. It is erratic noise that really makes me lose concentration (which is why I don't like silence, because all other noises become more evident).

Anyway, there it is.

Oh, and now it's Padre Antonio Soler's Piano Sonata #84, played by Alicia de Larrocha.

Water flowing down the gutters and into the yard...first rain in weeks. Nothing like the sound of rain on a lazy Saturday afternoon in the summertime.

Especially when curled up reading the latest LFI magazine and dreaming of an M9.

Some '90's R&R, a Frisco band called "ZERO". Free downloads /Internet Archives. Great stuff, and the price is right. :D

My wife's Swedish cousin/nephew, whatever..."The Tallest Man on Earth". Seriously... he is Ernie Scrugs, Bob Dylan, and Merle Haggard all rolled into one. He is the most blogged about musician on the planet. Great down to earth kid, mind boggling acoustic guitar player, self composed lyrics that will blow your mind. Try .. "The Gardner" or "he King of Spain".
