I live in a small town with limited photo opps as far as I'm concerned. Sometimes it takes me weeks to finish one roll of film. Today I spent about 4 hours walking around downtown Toronto with a Hexar RF and Canon 28f3.5. F8 zone focussed at 6ft usually. I shot almost 4 bulk rolled TMax 100 24 exp. rolls. Will develop them tonight with 1:100 Rodinol. I'm pretty excited about the pics I took today. It was a good day. I broke some ground in self confidence with photographing strangers by just acting like I was doing what I was supposed to be doing. The answer to a difficult problem is so simple.

Joe, you're going to enjoy Toronto streets.

I've read about this many times, but you need to suck it up and actually do it, to experience the release/revalation/freedom.

Frank, you are setting the example! Great photographs are missed by hesitation and inhibition.

Thanks for that simple phrase which I will keep in my head - "I'm doing what I'm SUPPOSED to be doing!"

I have had the same experience Frank. I spend time being uncomfortable and afraid and being timid; then when you just go on and do whatever it is you wonder why you spent all that time being afraid. As you said, if you act like you know what you're doing - people assume you actually do.

I got a serious scowl from a policeman guarding a municipal worker in a manhole. But you know what? His expression didn't hurt me at all. I tried to connect with a smile, but he didn't reciprocate, so I just took the pic and walked on.

i am very much looking forward to some 'new' streets...need some invigorating...
 
i remember toronto feeling like a cleaner n.y.c. but i hear new york is much cleaner and safer these days.

been many years since i have been to toronto but i always like a big city.

looking forward to your shots.
 
Success insofar as the technical appearance of the washed negs. Booked up tomorrow so not sure that I'll be able to get any scanning done until Friday. Stay tuned.
 
Nice to read your words. I think that being pretty relaxed and being an obvious photographer, not a furtive one can only help. I look forward to seeing your shots.
 
Weeks to finish a roll of film? Ha! It took me over a month to do 11 shots last time I put a roll in my camera. But my last trip into Sydney got me 12 shots, a record 😀. My town isn't that small, but on the weekend there are usually no more than 4 groups of people walking the streets.
 
That's good news, there's nothing like shooting lots as it makes you feel really good, especially when your making ground on getting over the 'people' hump.
