What are you listening to at the moment?

Strauss. "Thus Spake Zarathustra".

I heard this on the radio last night without being sure what it was, except that it had to be R Strauss. The writing seemed a little laboured through the unfamiliar passage I was listening to. Just now while washing the dishes there was Elgar's Enigma Variations on the radio, a truly marvellous work. There aren't many great English composers but the few there are I admire very much.

John Coltrane "My Favorite Things" from his Afro Blue Impressions CD. This is the live version with McCoy Tyner, Jimmy Garrison, and Elvin Jones. Truly a classic in Jazz.

Last couple of weeks I've hardly listened to anything but Simon and Garfunkel....

I do a show on a local community radio station and I play music I love, for example;
Supertramp (got every album!)
Dire Straits
Fleetwood Mac
Billy Joel
America
10cc
Mental As Anything
Men At Work
Crowded House
Jethro Tull
Beatles
Cat Empire
Jimmy Buffett
Travelling Wilburys
James Taylor
Don Maclean
And loads of other similar stuff.

At home I often listen to jazz and swing, Irish folk music, Australian conical folk music, some country I like but some I can't stand, and classical music especially Mozart, Bach, Grieg, Tchaikovsky and Johan Strauss II.
Love the magic flute, got a special playlist on my iPhone with just magic flute on it...
Don't go much onmost modern music...prefer old school!
Cat Empire, Josh Pyke, Lior, and a few others are ok though.

"Tied And True" by Detroit Cobras now. Next will likely be some Lou Reed--"Transformer", I think.
Music to wax floors by!
Rob
