Something's got a hold of my heart...

I have quite a few (well, 17 actually) film cameras yet the one that keeps drawing me back is my M3, particularly with the 50mm C-Sonnar.

Sometimes I just want to sell everything else and stick with this.

I think about it alot, particularly when I'm using another camera.

I love to look at it, hold it but most of all use it.

Some of the photos I've taken with it are my favourites of any I've taken.

Every other camera of mine seems to pale in comparison.

I've tried several other Ms but have sold most of them.

I've tried competitors and alternatives, old and new.

I've used it a lot but I regret not using it more than I have: I haven't used it enough.

It started my whole collection and I think it'll end it too - back to square one, with all I need.

Is this normal?

Well .. I know Dave Lackey isn't about to disagree with you.

That's as certain as death and taxes! :D :D

M3 forever!

Leica M3, Summaron 35mm f/2.8 goggles, HP5.

Right there with you. M3 with a 50mm lens is just about all the 35mm film camera I'll ever need. I've sold nearly everything else.

LOL - yes, it is normal. Once you find a soul mate, you SHOULD at least consider marriage (and how unhappy would your M3 be if you kept "fooling around" with a Hexar AF or some other young, nubile beauty) ? :)

Since getting my M3 (which was my first M) earlier this year, I've been going through the same thing. Not even my beloved Nikons are getting the use they once did! I guess it is normal :)

This is my first post here on RFF!

What would be the best budget lens to go with the M3?

Thanks.

Although prices have gone up: a 50 Rigid Cron. Got mine a while back for $499.00, but more recently a friend got one for around the same price. The problem is finding a clean one, or phase in by getting it CLA'ed at a later date. Rigids are prone to haze.

Call me vain but a 50 Rigid with a 12585 hood is mighty good looking on a M3. Also feels remarkably solid.

I used only SLR systems in the past, and then I bought a "like new looking" M3 with shiny "like new looking" chrome lenses (Summicron 35/2, 50/2 90/2). They were a back-up set for some older gentleman here in town, and he had bought it in Germany. I have the receipt for the M3 .... "it passed QC".

This camera changed my view on cameras. It feels luxurious to hold it, and it feels very special to use with the Summicron lenses. My wife watches (me using) it, and she reminds me that it better stay nice looking ... for our children.

I treasure this camera. I used it last weekend.

Exact same experience as Raid's. Same type of previous owner. 50mm Summicron, 35mm Summaron with eyes, 90 mm Elmar. I used the camera last weekend at a wedding. It's amazing.

I have 2, just in case. I was considering getting spares for them, just in case, and maybe a couple others, you never know :)
The M3s are the cameras I wear like jewlery.

M3 - the one and only M.

Have a M6 and MP in the closet, don't remember when I used them last. The M3's are just special. Sold M2s and M4.
