Dear Board,

I'll begin by saying I have never scanned film with anything other than a DSLR with a JJC scanning kit using the LED light that comes with the kit. It's not perfect, but it works well for my use, particularly with 35mm film.

I've now collected a couple of 120 film cameras, and I am interested in aftermarket negative carriers, especially for 6x4.5 negatives for using with my secondhand Canon 9000F. I've read here about aftermarket carriers with glass to help hold the negatives flat, but I don't recall which brand was discussed.

Can anyone suggest where I should look? I'm just some old guy goofing off and I'm not looking to produce museum quality scans. I just want to have some fun shooting, developing, and scanning my film as well I can.

Tim, have you tried using the holder that came with the scanner? That’s what I use and it’s fine. I shoot HP5+ and it lies very flat.

John
Dear John,

No, I haven't because I haven't finished a roll of 120 yet. I guess I could try that once a roll is finished and developed. 😉

I do remember someone on here posting about negative carriers with glass, but it was years ago and I've long since lost the link.

I'll try with what I have, it's not like I'm Ansel Adams and expecting great results!

Dear Board,

Just in case anyone else is looking for one, my buddy came through with the website.

I'll try with what I have and if I decide to buy another holder I will report back with the results.

I am using the 8600F which is quite similar i assume.
The 120 negatives can curl at times and the scan can be hit and miss.
If i have a flat negative, i use the holder. If it curls, i put the film on the glass plate and sandiwch it with the holder. Works better.

Good strategy. Curl is the main reason I switched from Tri- X to HP5+ in both 35 and 120. Love the stay-flat quality of HP5.
