Just had eye surgery today......I am so bummed out

Not a very positive post here, but since we are all photographers here and sometimes we share the good times with the bad times......
A week ago I got a stye in the inside of my eyelid and went to a very good hospital here in Bangkok, I have been on antibiotics for the last week and today was my one week check up.......well, they saw "something" else on the stye and they are not sure what it is.....it can be many things......so I had surgery done on it so they can send a tissue sample to the lab.....

I will know the results on the 14th of this month on what it is.......tonight, I had a couple of needles stuck into my eylid and two small incisions cut into my eyelid.....it was very painful.......I am supposed to go to Myanmar on the 19th for 21 days, but as of now, I am just waiting to see what the results are before I decide what I will do.....
I have to wear this patch on my eye for the next 4 hours then I can take it off.....I am off the antiobiotics for now and have been given some ointment to apply to my eye two times a day......

I am so scared that it can be something serious, I started to cry in the doctors office and she asked me what was wrong, I told her that I am photographer and this is the eye that I focus with......she told me not to worry, there isn't any chance that I will be blind or have complications with my eye sight because it is on my eyelid, not on my eye......regardless.....my spirits are down, I am a million miles away from my family and loved ones and I am worried about the results........anyways, just thought I would share my not so good day with you fine folks here........

Sounds like you've had quite a jolt, Michael. Sorry it's got you down. Take some heart from the words of your doctor, and give yourself some time to get on a more even keel. Maybe it's time for a good meal, listen to some music, get out and take a walk. I'm not saying your reaction is unreasonable, but you will get through this. Your name on a post has consistently drawn me to threads here, so can't wait to see you shooting again. I'll keep my fingers croseed for good results on the 14th.

A tough situation indeed. Try not to loose your strength and good will - I hope you will be better soon. Even though you are far form your family I am sure they care and wish you all the best. You will be back to photography in no time. I wish you all the best too.

I had a major eye surgery in July of 2011 after my orbital floor was shattered. I know well the feelings you may be having.
My eye has recovered to about 90% and is still improving daily. The fears are long forgotten. Medicine is amazing these days. I'm sure the docs will get you back to 100% and we can all enjoy your fantastic work for years to come.

I'm sure this can't be anything other than scary but try to take heart from what the doctor told you.
Anytime you mix needles and eyes it is scary!
I'd also take some solace that you only have to wear the eye-patch for 4 hours; when I was about 4 or 5 years old I had some corrective surgery done on my right eye and had to wear a patch for 10 days or so. Mainly to keep me from poking at the stitches, I suppose.
And when I was in my early teens, my ophthalmologist wanted a sample of the fluid inside my eye. That procedure was terrifying! "Now, Rob, you're going to feel some pressure while I put this needle through your cornea...just relax (!) and lie still." A sentence I fervently hope to never hear again.

On a bit lighter note, now you know why ninjas are better than pirates (Jack Sparrow, not withstanding!)

Eye surgery has improved to the point that we all can feel fortunate that positive outcomes are the norm.Hang in there, I predict you will be back to your passion soon.
 
The doctor was right. At least it was the eyelid & not the eye itself. So you do have that to be thankful for. Being diabetic, I probably have more to worry about the eyes than you do. But with that, I understand your feelings & being away from loved ones doesn't help much at all. Just know this Michael you have friends here on RFF praying for you to get through this & our spirits are with you. I pray the Lord will give you peace & healing & continually good eyesight.🙂
 
a big thanks to everybody who has replied.....your replies really make me feel better.....I spoke with my family after the surgery and it was nice to hear what they told me.......just like it is nice to read your thoughtful emails......

These are definitely the kind of situations that one needs his family around, and I feel for you being far away from them now (I've far from my folks for many years now).
Take a deep breath, treat you with something you really like to eat or drink (oh yeah, a couple of drinks are mandatory here...)
You have all my best wishes that this will soon be nothing more than one of the few scary trips any healthy person go through during his life.

The eye is a remarkably resilient organ. It takes a great deal to affect the cornea permanently. It is very unlikely that any lid surgery will affect your central vision and resolution.

Michael, I've seen some amazing images from you. Very impressive. I know you're concerned about your vision. But remember, it's your brain that makes you a photographer. Your eyes are just the sense mechanism. Try and relax-- I know, easier said than done. Worrying will not make it better. Our thoughts are with you.
 
Hey guys and gals, thanks a lot, your replies have uplifted my spirits and have given me hope.......I really appreciate it.......Monday (today) is the King of Thailand's birthday and I usually walk around all day and photograph all the cool things going on around town with one of my Leica's.......I think I will take out my Yashica T4 point and shoot and just try to have some fun with that camera.......

there is no way I want to bring any camera anywhere close to my eye right now and the Yashica T4 has a little top viewfinder that I like to use.......I am going to try my best to to keep positive (reading this thread helps a lot) and just wait until I get the results back.......a big thanks again, seriously, you guys and gals are awesome......
