Quick shot at night, didn't have a tripod so I just upped it to ISO 6400 and shot at f/2 :D soooo not my kind of shooting style at night. But it worked.

I have been bothered by many of the b&w pics posted from the X100 (and also my quick and dirty conversions to see how it looks). Many of the b&w pictures look like Delta 100 film on acid: high contrast blinding whites and shadows that just drop to black and very low mid-tone separation. I am wondering if this is how users like their b&w to look? Coming from years of medium format b&w I find the look kind of jarring.

I didn't have Sliver Efex on me when I tried a couple of conversions but it seemed that this high contrast look was hard for me to try to get rid of. In comparison, straight Canon 1Ds conversions (using Zeiss lenses) look a bit more subdued with more mid-tone body, if I can call it that.

I'm sorry to be talking-out-loud but I was just wondering if anybody else has noticed this re: the peculiar contrasty look of b&w out of the X100? I'll play around in Silver Efex, though, to see how I can get the b&w to look more 'earthy' for my old-timer self. Thnx everyone.
