I took that strategy with the 50mm Summicron over the Summilux when I bought my camera. I like the "best bang for the buck" concept, and I also preferred something smaller. Well, that and I knew that the new version of the Summilux was about to arrive (this was back in '04) so I held off thinking that I could always upgrade.

I do find more often that I like having the extra stop. I've settled into rating Tri-X at 250 and pulling a bit to get better shadow detail. I've needed every stop I can get indoors.

I usually take my time making these decisions, so it may be a while before I buy. And if I win the lottery any time soon then I'll get the 50/1.4 ASPH and the 90/2 APO and stop worrying! 😉 But, I guess I gotta start playing the lottery to win it...

Until then I'll enjoy seeing more images from the Elmarit-M on this thread! 😉

The beach picture from Louttit Bay has incredible contrast and colours - great! Have you done any post-processing?

The tonality is great on this photo. Really nice. I've only used Neopan 1600 so I have to try the 400 version.

The "fat" Tele Elmarit is really nice. What film did you use for this photo?
 
Philipus, I used Ektar 100, but scanned it in black and white.
I was afraid the lens would have flare problems since I was
not using the lens hood and the sun was coming in at a very harsh angel.

Great shots posted....liked the lens except for up close. The bokeh didn't jive with me. For landscapes though, excellent lens

I have the "fat" tele-elmarit 90/2.8. In theory, the "skinny" one that followed mine is better, but I've never been unhappy with it.

And I stuck it on the front of my new-to-me Visoflex III and did a little macro work with it this past weekend:

rsolti - are those merged photos or crops? Excellent colours. I like the bokeh on the portrait, very dreamy rendition.

Drew, those are great portraits. I think the fat tele-elmarit is a fantastic lens.

In reviewing this thread, I rediscover the contrast and "pop" that the 90 elmarit-M delivers, especially in color photos. This lens works exceptionally well in near-far situations where you want the background in soft-focus; the image retains contrast while nicely bluring the background.
